True story: a woman I know developed brain cancer and died. Her husband got the exact same cancer and died a year after she did. The locals speculate the cause was a nearby manufacturing plant.

That is just shocking and I wish Sheryl all the best. However, I really feel that she should not get back with Lance. If you were incompatible with someone when you were well, why should that change because you are sick? I had a mini stroke last year and stupidly let my ex back into my life. Big mistake! We didn't become lovers again, but the fact that I was even speaking to his behind spoke volumes about my vulnerability at the time. Cancer is terrifying enough without having to decipher your ex fiance's behaviour; ie are we back together? Accept the advice, the flowers and the support, but do not take the man back under any circumstances.
How easy it would be to accept empathy from a person from your past. Even if they were toxic. When you're down and out, you need people around you, and sometimes your judgment is clouded. Hindsight is always 20/20, though. Thanks for sharing your story, JBD. Glad your well now

It actually sounds worse than it was; migraine from hell, lost the use of my legs and pincer movement in my hands, plus slurred / stuttering speech. Was on my own with my 7 year old when it happened; he thought I was impersonating Porky Pig. Haaaa!

Cancer is horrible and effects not only the person who is afflicted, but everyone who cares about them..I just lost my aunt in Aug('05) to multiple myeloma..she fought for 8 years and everone thought she was going to make it, but that s*it is vicious! I say a prayer every night for all the people who are either fighting Cancer or who are recovering..now I'll include her..

I am a big fan of Sheryl Crow's music, but I thought it was foul how she got with him while he was still married to Kristin (who helped him thru his cancer) Then she started appearing at the races holding his "little" kids like she was mommy. Hell he left his wife & kids, what made her think he wouldn't leave her ass. And now at this critical moment he's not there. He's not going back either. He only lives a coupla houses from that ex wife so......
My darling mother died 7 looooooong years ago in her valant battle with bladder cancer. There were no reasons for her to contract it....she didn't smoke, or work with solvents/chemicals.......she was very, very healthy prior to her diagnosis.
She battled her ass off, and literally died kicking and screaming as she didn't want to leave this planet. She loved it here.
Cancer is a nightmare for not only the patient but also for the family/friends of the patient.

Crow having cancer has nothing to do with being a "bad", or good person. Also, let's say Lance and his wife were on the out's before he developed cancer, then stayed toghther for awhile after. Once he's recovered, he's right back where he started. Marriage still ain't working.

nasty news, here is to hoping that they caught it small, if the docs say she will recover then we can all be hopeful, this should just be anohter reminder for women AND men to do monthly self brest exams! men can get breast cancer, but it is more rare because they have less of the fatty breast tissue.

Lance and Kristin didnt even meet until Lance was having chemo and last all of his hair to cancer. In a magazine Kristin said she was guarded at first because she knew Lance's reputation as a womanizer. It didnt take him long to go back to his old ways, after he was better and she gave birth to 3 kids.
I wish her a safe and speedy recovery. I have to have a biopsy on Wednesday, and let me tell you, it is scary as hell waiting to find out.

My best friend lost her husband to cancer. Their baby was born, he went into the hospital the next day to start chemo. A year later, he was gone. Lived 1 week past his son's first birthday. Did I mention I HATE cancer?

My paternal aunt had cancer when she was about my age, my paternal grandfather had it, and my father has undergone 2 bouts with bladder cancer and 1 bout with prostate cancer. It's absolutely devastating...for the patient, their family and friends and the caretakers. I embrace the survivors and grieve the losses.
I can only see the bright side of this. They caught in time and she is probably surrounded by a very strong support circle.
Whether she wrecked anyone's home or why she is no longer with someone is irrelevant. I hope no one, I mean regular day women, like you and me will
1. never have to go through this
2. if we do, nevr feel we deserved it
3. would seek refuge in a relationship thinking it would make it better

Dad had prostate cancer...was diagnosed in 2000 and lived until July 2002...one year longer than the doctor predicted, and one year that he saw his only granddaughter born and went to Disney World with his only grandson (my child).
My prayers are for Sheryl Crowe for a full recovery, and all of us whose lives have been touched by this disease.

Thank you. I feel a bit ashamed when I enjoy gossiping,dishing,visiting this site and having the great reporte that we have. And then one sees a story like this and it seems as we have to forcefully make it into a gossip story when in reality it is not...puts thing in perspective. Do I really want to find the celebrity spin on someone having cancer? Do I want to find that small thread of relevance to make this into a gossip story? She has cancer because she slept with someone who had cancer? because she was a homewrecker? I she lonely or lonelier now without him? Did he leave her because he knew? Did she leave hime because she knew? Everything is so stupidly miniscule and unimportant. She and thousands and thousands have cancer and here I am trying to put a "hot gossip" spin on it. It is embarasing.
I saw my mother in law's skin shriveling up all over her torso and blackening with the cancer. In her last months, you could not even hold her hand because of the tremendous pain she was in. Her strong viking-like body turned into a fragile glass like shell. She never checked herself and did not want to worry anyone.
I thank God each and every minute of the day that my father is a hypocondriac. He persistently complained of heartburn, visited doctors religiously, complained incessantly about the heartburn until they found the cancer. He is his best treatment. I love my father and I admire him even more for being such a survivor and a whiner at the same time.

I feel badly for you Meramari, and I can honestly say "I know how you feel" as I lost my mother to the "C" word. I was right there when she "finally let go" and went. It is something that will stay with me forever.
Now I am battling the doctors myself. I have had two MRIs and one Neurosurgeon said, "there is nothing here" after the radiologist said there was a 8.8 milimeter meningioma (brain tumor) in my head! The tech said he saw it clear as day, and they did another one and now the radiologist is saying it is gone AGAIN! WTF!!!!!! I am ready to kill somebody! PEOPLE THIS IS MY BRAIN WE ARE TALKING ABOUT, not a wart on my thumb! Effers!
I am going to get a second opinion from one more Neuro Surgeon on the 6th, and then we will find out if the MIA brain tumor is there or not.
But I do want to say that MK and Dlisted are a Godsend, as it is a much needed escape. Yes, sometimes things like the escapades of Parasite and Hohan seem so shallow and trivial, but at the same time, it takes me away from my problems if only for a bit.

This sucks so much, I was upset all day yesterday. Still am today, as I know she must be having a difficult time dealing with her break up, and now has to deal with a terrifying condition. No matter what the prognosis is, the shock of hearing your doctor say "It's cancer" is something I don't wish on anyone.
My dad (a strong, 45 years old guy), died in 1993 when I was 11, after battling for a year and a half with colon cancer. His youngest (and only) son was only 1. He always wanted a boy, but in his five previous attempts (me being the third) always had girls. He had his boy in September and in December discovered his cancer was basically incurable. He had three wives, with the first had two daughters, then with my mom he only had me, and three with the last one (who died a couple of years ago of breast cancer). Thanks to cancer I didn't have a dad when I needed him the most, basically lost all contact with my siblings and now the younger ones are complete orphans. God, how I hate cancer!
Wish Sheryl a quick, complete (painless as possible) recovery. She's a great artist with a future fill of happiness in front of her. Hope we hear better news soon.

Sheryl and Lance broke up because she wants a family and he already has 3 kids.
She found out afterwards that she had it. I am sure he will help her through it, but they will not be getting married. They want different things for their future. They still love each other though, very much.
