People automatically assume that if an artist is not having hit records here in the US that their career must be over. with George Michael nothing could be further from the truth .
His last album was quite successful in Europe Japan & South America with his last 2 singles "Amazing" & "Flawless" being huge dance/pop hits everywhere but America where the music scene is utter shit.
Dance music is DEAD in the US, even Madonna with her million dollar payola push barely cracked the top 10 with "Hung Up" then it was only to number #7 & it was gone in a few weeks.
I realized finally the other day , to make it stateside in the music biz you either have to be a Disney mind controlled fembot like Brit Brit or Chestica,or in one of those 4 dozen emo rock bands where all the lead singers are doing a bad Cher impersonation or for your greatest success be a Black man Rapper who uses the "N" word like "the" ,& make sure you encourage disrespect to women , gays & other Blacks in general.

I have this theory, maybe Im wrong , but it seems to add up. Remember back in the early 90's where George Michael brought a lawsuit against SONY & Tommy Mottola for failing to promote his album proper? (Michael Jackson also did same before he ran afoul of the law again)
George spent a truckload of money & time as an artist fighting a huge international conglomerate, next thing you know WHAM! arrested for being a Beverly Hills Tea Room Queen. Now, Im pretty sure that this wasnt his first trip down washroom lane, Im sure he , just like Paul "Pee Wee Herman" Rubens(who was in litigation with CBS @ the time of his arrest) was being watched, monitored & followed for awhile.
I think most people who wind up in front page news with this sort of scandalous behaviour have either done something to piss off a higher up more powerful important person than them or they KNOW something about this person & therefore, they themselves have to be discredited & brought down .
I mean when its finally revealed by a public lewdness arrest that George Michael is in fact gay (DUH!)Sony & Tommy Mottola dont have to worry about his album being promoted proper now, seeing as how his female fan base wants nothing to do with him. Problem solved. NEXT!

As for GM dodging this kind of thing forever, I would agree but differently.
I think GM exhibits all the classic signs of an 'identified patient'. There is allot of self-hating and destructive tendencies. He knows full well what he is doing, and I think gets off on the attention.
