I agree with you. And studies say that you recieve the most sun damge before the age of 18, because a lot of parents didn't put sunblock on as often as they should have. So fuck the parents!

Storm - when I was in HS Nivea still was made with oil. You actually had to shake the bottle (glass) to get it to blend. We put that and baby oil on our skin before we broiled ourselves! I lasted about ten mins cuz my skin is so fair. Red hair and really pale skin. Ugh.

I'm black but im only 26 so hopefully I look my age ..now my mom is 54 and looks like she's in her mid 30's...she used to tan a lot..unfortunately she's what we call *high yellow*..im darker so I don't really have a reason to tan but whenever I go to the beach I use SPF 30 or higher...and like many have said before most aging comes from sun damage. Melanin(sp) which everyone has but in different amounts protects from sun damage..hence the *Black Dont Crack* phrase

I remember reading a cousin's very, VERY old Hello!s and she has said everything from "My hair is really this long because my dad's white", "My grandmother is Ethiopean and I get my genes from her", all the way to "I never work out because of good genes." That last one I found hard to believe at first especially after she was on a stair climber and attacked an employee. She looks amazing for 35 but what's wrong with admitting you get a little help looking gorgeous? Ugh. Sidenote: did Whitney really also say that 'Black don't crack?' The body stops producing collagen for 30 minutes after you smoke a cig.

I think having some melanin definitely helps. It's a natural protector against the sun. Not to the point where anyone could lay out in it for hours without sunblock, but enough where 15 minutes for a black person probably wouldn't do the same damage as 15 minutes for a pale, white person. Then I think some of it is just genes. Look at Pumkin. All the sunblock in the world and she'll always look 20 years older than she is. If you look at Naomi's mom, you'll see that she does have genetic help.
The only reason I don't believe it's pure genes is because she definitely had a rockstar period where she was coked up, smoking and drinking. That type of stuff generally ages anyone.
On a side note, I am waiting for the day when she gets an assistant who doesn't take her crap and decks her one good time.
