Unfortunately, abused woman often "choose" (not consciously) men who treat them like crap. It reaffirms their poor self-esteem (See? I'm bad. I deserve to get hurt.) It's very, very sad. And they are not aware they're doing it.
I was a childhood abuse victim myself and spent 8 years counseling others. It's a sad pattern I saw over and over. It's hard for these women to break the cycle. Some of them never manage it. Alot of them end up with eating disorders (Because of the self-image and the 'control' issue. They are 'controlling' what's happening to their bodies.)
I doubt very much her revealing her abuse is a publicity stunt. It's far too painful to ever take lightly. Perhaps the incident with Clooney did cause her to say something to someone, and then you know how Hollywood is. Everybody knows within an hour. Maybe she did the interview so she had some say over how the story was presented.
