Sorry to keep you in suspense but when the boss comes I have to minimize! I met her at Chanterelle in Manhattan and she was with this younger guy who I am assuming was her boyfriend at the time. She was walking out and my boyfriend and I were walking in. I was so surprised to see her!! I wasn't an obnoxious gushing fan or anything, I just said to her. Ms. Dresher hello, I am a huge fan, and I just want to say that your book was so inspiring. She laughed and said tell me something I don't know and walked away!!!! My boyfriend was like, shit I think you just got told off by the Nanny! I can understand if I would have interupped her dinner for an autograph or was loud an obnoxious, but I seriously was just paying her a compliment and she was so bitchy! Anyway that's my encounter with Fran, and Jay, you need to relax, she's a celebrity, not the mother of God.

I also read her book Cancer Shcmancer and I have a newfound respect for her for facing her cancer ordeal so bravely.

She wasn't drunk, she was just being a bitch, which surprised me because I had always heard she was very fan friendly as well. The reason that I referred to her as the c-word was because, I was referring to her book Cancer Schmancer, when I met her it was just around the time that it came out. How did she know that I wasn't going to say something like: your book was so inspirational, I am a cancer survivor myself. I mean I'm not, but she didn't know that, and didn't even let me get another word in. I wasn't just like complimenting her on her shoes or anything. I mean I'm still a fan of the Nanny, just not a fan of hers anymore.
And even if she WAS drunk, it's no excuse for rudeness.

It was in the 80's and my dh and I were at the airport to pick up my mom. I was walking backward down the concourse so I could talk to my dh a mile a minute about whatever we were having a conversation over. (If you can imagine me talking that much. LOL!)
Anyway, I slammed headlong into this guy who was walking the other direction, tripped over him and literally fell into his arms. He caught me and set me back on my feet, and I looked up at him -- he was wayy tall and blond) and I said, "Oh, whoops, so sorry."
He said, "My pleasure, sweetheart." And we both kept walking.
About 50 yards down the concourse, I stopped dead in my tracks, looked at my dh, who was STILL cracking up and said, "OH MY GOD!! That was Jon from CHIPS!"
Dh was busting a gut by then. He said, "I was wondering how long it would take you to notice who you were slam dancing with."
I was in a daze the rest of the day. LOL!!
It was indeed Larry Wilcox, who was in town for a celeb skiing event. I saw him on our local morning talk show the next a.m. He didn't say anything about nearly getting knocked down at the airport by a crazy woman. LOL!!
Anyway, he was really nice -- and SO much better looking in person than on TV!!!!

Fran was on an episode of a good law series that got canned way to early called "Civil Wars". She played a successful comedy writer whose husband wanted her to take some kind of anti-depressant to curb her tongue outside of the writer's room because she was really obnoxious & couldn't control it. Fav line was the husband quoting Fran at his mother's funeral, laughing at the priest who was waving incense: "Oh look: the drag queen's purse is on fire!" I think the upshot was that Fran didn't have to take the pills because it killed her lucrative writing skills. Wondering if life imitates art in Fran's case --?

I believe this was taken a few days ago at the tribute to Wendy Wasserstein and Cynthia Nixon at the 3 West Club. Fran does look beautiful, hope that MsAstro's experience was an isolated one (thanks for sharing that with us MsA). Considering your b/f thought the same thing as you - is probably an indication that she was geniunely mean'ish to you. Having said that...not sure I could cope with fame etc.
I liked her until I read her book. I watched my mother go through cancer treatment and reading about Fran's experience and her whining about the most silliest, trivial things totally put me off her. She states she was so brave, etc... in her book. I'm sorry, I didn't see any bravery in her story, just a self important, poor me attitude.

I met her when she came to Argentina. She took a picture with me on Christmas day. She was LOVELY and BEAUTIFUL and yes, her voice REALLY sounds like that.
