Thru my job I got to go to the base to help out and met so many people who were pissed off at the US government but were happy that non celebs and celebrities like Sean Penn, Harry Connick Jr, Oprah, etc. were donating their time and money. Redesigning New Orleans signature architecture and neighborhoods would be a tragedy. Good insulation, fuel effecient appliances, insulated windows, pole and beam foundations, and renewable materials aside, the only way those home would be "greener" is if they were not single family homes. i do however wish some of the rebuilding efforts would focus on other areas hit just as hard as New Orleans...not that i begrudge them any aid that they have received, its just that there were other communities that were wiped out as well, and they get NO Coverage!(i.e Mississippi and Alabama)

Pitt has been an apprentice with Graft, Inc for years. They're the German architects that did and are currently working on his Los Feliz home that they'll live in once they get back to the states.
It takes 10 years to get your license and it isn't something he's wanted to go after. He's sponsoring this project in New Orleans he never claimed he was an architect. You don't need to be able to draw to appreciate fine art.
I lived in NOLA and on the coast for a five year period. The federal and local governments and insurance companies are a big joke. If Brad Pitt can do good, I say go for it. All of you criticizing his efforts should get off your butts and go down and help rebuild these communities. It is a damn shame that more hasn't been done. Look at Asia after the Tsunami--most of it has been rebuilt. Here it is, what nine months after Katrina? and NOLA and the coast and the other place hit, still are in shambles. I say go BRAD and those of you who want to harp on his efforts either get your checkbooks out and make a donation to some place that is really helping the rebuilding efforts or get down there and start hauling trash and rebuilding with the folks--OR SHUT UP.

if you belong to a church they might have a sister church that has a base in one of the effected areas. you can also contact local hospitals to see if any volunteers are needed...
while i was there i passed out supplies (H2O, tents, sleeping bags, clothes and food)...we had two mobile units that went to, what once were neiborhoods but are now indistinguishable disaster zones..parked and started handing out what we had to those that had a need....
i'll ask my boss if she knows of any other organizations that are conducting releif efforts and try to post the results this weekend
Not only get out check books, get off your ASS and go down there and help build, clean up or do whatever you can. My cousin lives in Germantown, TN and we went to N.O. with the Red Cross after the initial devastation.
It is something if you've seen first hand you will never forget so shame on the people who sit behind their computer screens and judge others who are actually trying to help.

There is still so much work to be done in the Gulf Coast regions. If this can generate any type of excitement it's welcome. As Pitt said in his A/P interview the other day, an anoymous designer submitted fantastic work and won the task of creating the Vietnam momument in Washington. The same can be done here.
There are a lot of young, talented people who have terrific ideas who want to do something for their fellow American's and a part of their Union. This isn't about putting a park in the middle of N.O. this is about creating JOBS and giving people their dignity and some quality of life back.

My husband family were displace from NOLA, Thank God no one was hurt but they are now living with family in Arkansas and are thinking of moving there permanantly.
So, any attention Brad and Angie can bring to that region, is a blessing and they will bring attention. Brad will bring the entire family to NOLA when they arrive for the start of the competition. I'm glad someone like Pitt can shine a bright light...I would love to see all those distroyed neighborhood in People, Intouch, US Weekly which in turn will shame...the "legit" media to talk about this mess.
I was watching PBS documentary on the San Francisco Earthquake 100 year aniversary...and they said that it is unbelieveable that President Theodore Roosevelt had the army in SF within 24hrs building homes and saving lives. But Pres. GW Bush can't get the army into NOLA 6 days later and haven't done shit since except leave thousands of trailers in an Arkansas airport rusting away.

It's nice when famous people lend their names to causes, but I think in the long run it's not going to inspire people to participate. And I think ultimately so many of them do it for their own selfish purposes, i.e. their public sees them as caring, whereas when you donated time or money, millions of people didn't say 'Wow, Lucky Charm really cares.' You did it out of a desire to help and probably because it made you feel good on some level - I know I feel good when I donate to charities and volunteer.
People who participate are naturally inclined to do so and would without prompting because they want to help, whereas others wouldn't volunteer ten minutes of their time for all the money in the world. Know what I mean? Anyhoo, enough about Bland Pitt and I think it's great you're involved.

I respectfully disagree. Yes there are people who help because they are inclined to do so but most need a push and some even need a kick in the ass. Inspiration comes from many different sources. If Pitt doesn't inspire you then fine. Maybe your inspiration comes from your Aunt Betty or just out of the goodness of your heart.
I work for a highly successful not- for-profit. We actively recruit celebrity spokepersons because:
1. gives us much needed and free PR
2. donations start pouring in
3. fans and/or those inspired by the celebrity will donate their time to help
One last thing: For those who say they prefer celebrities to donate on the down low instead of out in the open, my organization disagrees with that opinion for the very reasons I stated above.

Secondly if you do some research you can see that Brad didn't start publicly supporting charities until 2004 when he hooked up with Angelina. So the idea that he has been championing causes for "years", at least publicly, is false. And as to your feeling that Brad's past girlfriends hooked up with him for name recognition and fame, I could say the same thing about him. I didn't see him dating any non-celebs either! Everyone of the women he dated were considered the "IT" celebs at the time. He met and married Jennifer when she was considered one of the "most beautiful people" in the world, so I could say the same thing about him using them to further his image as well.

One of the heads of Red cross for my area came and gave a talk about her work in New Orleans, and she started talking about how there is a giant arena there that is absolutely full of food, mattresses, clothing, etc. that was totally infested with rats and bugs because there is absolutely nothing set up to distribute it. and with the lack of electricity and such, volunteers are getting sick from heat exhaustion, and dehydration from lack of water.
i think that is horrible emergency response by the government. so my questions are for the celebs (all celebs, not just brad pitt before i get ripped to shreds by bamz fans). why not use their visibility to get action from the government, or why aren't they down there building and volunteering themselves? kanye west is the only one i have heard that has directly said anything, but even he isn't there. lots of them are idle in between 3 month movie stints, and they could be doing something. none of the volunteers that are there get any sort of props for their continuing efforts in horrible conditions.
oh and my next question is, why when anyone criticizes brad or angie for something, does someone always bring up jennifer aniston?
