These were taken in new york at the belasco theater where Lauren and Mark are doing a play awake and sing. Its not an alley, the black iron gate is where the actors come out. I was there last week and waited for mark to come out and got pictures and an autograph. He is a class act all the way!!

Choate was great for an education, but in terms of the people? Meh. There was only a handful of people who were not all about shoving how much money mommy and daddy had in your face. I was there on full scholarship, so I'm probably biased in that regard, but I was really turned off by how fucking snotty 80% 0f the kids were there.

Class of '93 here. Forget the pool, there was no smoking area when I was there - smoking was not allowed. We would go off and hide behind houses and other various buildings outside of campus just to smoke ciggies. Or we'd go to Grampy's in town. We's do off to the woods to smoke pot and drink, but if you were caught just once with drugs, you were expelled. With drinking it was suspension for the first time, expulsion for the second. Total and utter BS. I felt like I was in prison.

Yeah. I guess it was a little crazy and 'better' then. It was the tail end of the 60s (I started there in '79) and that whole ethic and outlook still prevailed somewhat. We even had hippies and quite a few Dead heads. When I lived in Edsall there was this 6th former who's mom used to bring him blow when she came in from NYC. (Mr. Packard was housemaster of Edsall then. He was an impressive, ex-marine, booming voice type guy but pretty cool, all in all).
The year after I graduated I remember reading in the NYT how this whole coke import ring at Choate was busted by the FBI and 20+ students were involved etc. I knew them by name and some were friends. The bad part was the guy the students had recruited to go down to S. America to buy the stuff (payed for his expenses and everything) was a day student from Wallingford who was quite a talented art student and a pretty nice guy. I don't know what became of him but having that on your record can't be good. In any case, that bust was the end of an era. Apparently, similar things went down at many of the other NE prep schools as well. Except for Deerfield, of course. Straight-laced pussies.
In my day (*gnarled joints creaking*) the pizzas were $2 and a soda was a quarter or 35 cents.
