I'm from New York and my dad had a ton of friends who were police officers in the city. I heard stories that in the ghettos in the early 90s it was more than common to give birth between 12 and 15. Isn't that sad?

strange thing, "Crystal" has a point. My ex-wife is an OB/GYN, and she has seen countless teenage girls, who reek of alcohol and cigarettes, who deliver perfectly healthy babies. She even walked in on a girl, having contractions, surrounded by tatooed loser teens, and she smelled crack, or meth, (she, nor I know the smell) and they were all covert about it. She tried kicking them out, and they wouldn't go. She had to call hospital security. Result: healthy baby.
Then there are women in their 30's who have done everything right, and their kids are deficient.

I have a cousin who fathered a child when he was 13. He is now 16. He's actually a really great father, mature for his age and has his life together. I mean, he knows looking back that it wasn't a decision they put enough thought into but his daughter his adorable and he loves her to death.

Crazy Cajun is correct. They're known as "Romeo and Juliet" laws, and most US states have some version of them. They do seem weird at first, but in fact in many was they make sense. Without them, a 16-year-old boy found having consensual sex with a girl the same age could be indicted for statutory rape. I can maybe *sort of* understand the reasoning for gender bias in the laws in general, but the fact is that teenage males were going to jail for having consensual sex - often with girlfriends the same age. Pretty stupid considering how many teenagers have sex.
Also, the ages Crazy Cajun mentioned are not set in stone....for example, the age of consent in Nebraska is only 16, not 18, thus two 16-year-olds having sex would be legal.

I'm about to turn 32 and I have no kids. I was 12 and in 7th grade the first time I saw a girl get pregnant. She was 12 as well. she went into labor during a media class. That right there was my birth control. I didn't think it was cute. I didn't think babies were like little dollies like the other girls. She proceeded to squeeze out two more kids before she was 16. This is vile and our government continues to force us to support these kids. Obviously preaching abstinence is not working.

Last I heard, pregnancy rates have gone down, but the preteen pregnancy rates have skyrocketed. Yesterday I saw a teen come in for her birth control at my ob appt. She already had two babies with her. The time before that I saw a very pregnant teen wearing her highschool swimming sweatshirt, and an engagement ring.
Also, children are developing much faster than 30 years ago. Its a combination of fast foods, fat foods, and growth hormones in milk & cheese. If you have kids, feed them organic dairy.

Yup. That shit (growth hormone for cows) is bad. Its been outlawed in Canada and Europe. Im currently pregnant with a girl, and have been trying to incorporate as much organic dairy as possible, but its quite expensive.
And I just want to say that not all teen mums are bad. I know most of them work their asses off, and try to be the best mom possible for the baby. It pisses me off that this British teen isn't taking personal responsibility by quitting smoking and drinking. AND HER MOM IS ENCOURAGING this bad behavior!

It was horrible. I was in fifth grade (started the summer before), and the bathroom stalls were not outfitted with sanitary napkin disposal boxes.
I imagine that now they have them in the bathroom since the average age is now lowered.

Historically, that was always the reality of life, and it still is for many girls in tribal or primitive societies. There's a stupid saying "old enough to bleed, old enough to breed." Back in the old days, they didn't keep track of a person's age. They looked at physical signs of puberty to determine maturity. If you were mensturating by age 9, guess what, you're getting hitched ASAP, before you get kinapped, raped and knocked up by an opposing family's son. And the sad truth is that the babies of younger mothers are generally healthier than those of older women (truly because the egg cells are younger. Whatever a girl is born with, that's all she gets. It's not like sperm, where you can make new cells everyday).
