I have actually seen Angie & Zahara in person (I was just behind them on an escalator at Whole Foods in NYC-- and then stalking them throughout afterwards) and that child is astonishingly beautiful. A lot of people don't think so (including most of my family & we're African-American) but that's because she is freakish looking. But it sooo works in person. She has the eyes of an owl and bowtie lips but b/c she never smiles she can photograph like an angry old Black man. Like one of Fred Sanford's friends. Part of being a Global Humanitarian is being forced to be in the same room,, negotiate, associate, lobby, with various Heads of States, politicians, etc whose views can be atrocious.
I always cringe when I see celebs I like meet with the likes of George Bush. I know what George's policies are. His policies are official statements as far as I am concerned. However, it would be ludicrous not to acknowledge him and associate with him as he is the leader of the #1 Nation in the world.
George Bush has schmoozed and has had tea with the Saudi Royals, one of the most sexist regimes in the world. Does that mean that George Bush believes women should not drive, should not vote, should not have rights? Probably not. But in diplomacy as in charity - you are forced to deal with all people.
That is why Bono and Jesse Helms is such a great story. Angelina has done nothing wrong. Her beliefs are still intact. She is being smart, that's all. Why else would Angelina be meeting with the Namibian government but to support her causes? She has an education initiative she wants to start there. How can it be done without the support of the government? She knows that government sucks. They are the reason kids there are not educated. But what can she accomplish withouth being smart enough to lobby the government?
she's sweating the small stuff, so how can she ever cope with the tons and tons of other shit going around!

An actress of her caliber and high profile has to protect herself for security's sake.
That said, here is the bottom line with Angelina Jolie: She is a Hollywood kid born of Hollywood actor parents. She became a huge Hollywood star making lots of money. Her films sell well, she is famous and ostensibly beautiful. She could be doing anything BUT this.
She has chosen to adopt two kids of color who would of starved in an orphanage. She, for whatever reason you think she is doing it, has people who did not even know how to spell Darfur talking about the genocide there.
She has put Namibia and its educational problems in the spotlight. Every interview, every chance she gets, she does not talk about who did her gold hair highlights but instead talks of Haiti and Africa.
At the end of the day, that is quite impressive in my book. This is what I want from my Hollywood stars,. The great ones did it too. Marlon Brando, Audrey Hepburn,Elizabeth Taylor ...and for that matter Ronald Reagan (who I am not a big fan of) but he decided early in his career to be more than an actor but a public servant.
