i'm not a parent yet, but we all have childhood issues...some definitely more than others. no one is going to be a perfect parent, but the fact that yall are talking and communicating about it is a good thing. i would say, just make sure that you're both prepared and willing to make sacrafices for that baby, and can give it the love it will need to flourish. learn from the experiences you had in your childhood, and simply try to give your best to your child. that is all you can ever do.

My ex and I went to a therapist while we were engaged just to make sure we are both on same page and therapist was wonderful. You will go through LOTS of childhood issues when pregant and after baby born. Talk with husband and a therapist if it will help. Everyone is different and a professional can certainly help you find closure. I went through a major one when pregnant with son. I had shut that part of my life only to have to open it back up again to get over it.

Once you have kids, your entire life (and all your time, energy and finances) gets handed over to them for the next 21 years. Do everything you want to before you have them, because afterward, it's impossible.
Make sure your couple bond is as strong as possible, because it takes a huge beating.
I grew up in the most dysfunctional family EVER and I did a year of counseling, plus hubby and I took parenting classes and read a lot of books. I wanted to make sure I did not repeat any mistakes!
I love my kids dearly and would die for them, but now, I can't wait until they're all out of the house. I know that sounds bad, but any mother of teenagers will say the same! I want my life back!
It's a huge decision, so if there's any doubt...there's no harm in waiting a while.

talking about it is a very good step,
my husband THEN BF was VERY VERY anti-child, I was very worried when we got married when i was 19/he was 25. We both worked alot for a few years and when I gave birth to my son 4 years into our marriage my husband became a NEW MAN in every good sense of the word, and made the comment that he wished he NEVER said that he didnt want any.
besides getting a dog, try on kids from family members & such, yeah that sounds worse than it actually is but if you have some patience you can do it!
Alayna, Tabatha is right, having kids of your own will suddenly bring up a lot of issues from your own childhood, so be prepared for that.
And don't be afraid to get counseling if you need it! It honestly does help.
Alayna, not all women who give birth are meant to be mothers! It's not your fault and don't feel like you have to compensate for her being unnatural. Enjoy your young life and when you're ready you'll know. Take your time hon.

I had some horrible shit happen to me when I was 19 and ended up having my son at 20. I never regreted having my son, NEVER. Being a mother is a blast, I had to grow up pretty quickly and sometimes I wished I could of done some things before I had him. However, when he's 18 I'll be a young 38 year old. My ass is doing a lot of fun stuff when I kick him out of the house!! JK
