I "accidently" saw them when I was a freshman in high school.
I went to a show, and my friends and I were confused as to why the entire venue was ALL 10-12 year olds. It was really fucking weird. Then we realized that one of the bands was playing under a fake name and the only people they had alerted to this was their fan club. Seriously, my friends and I (who were only 15-16) were the oldest people in the entire club.
It turns out 30 Seconds to Mars was playing, and since we were not into that music, in the middle of nowhere with no ride for 3 more hours, and had no beer, we heckled the shit out of them.
The 30 seconds to Mars guys sucked, were whiney as hell, and Jared had an expensive bass which he obviously couldn't play and was too heavy for him. They were also dressed up as Droogs from a clockwork Orange, eyelashes and all. At the end of their set they were pissed because we had been yelling insults and couch cushions at them. Jared got up and tryed to say agressively "If you wanna fight you can meet me and my boys out by the van after the show"... To which we laughed even harder because he seemed close to tears, and because his 12 posses wasn't protecting him.

I may be in the minority on this post, but I LOVE 30STM. TRUE, last year and the years before when they toured apparently they sucked live. Jared spent alot of time apparently pulling out the vocals that he did on the new album. I have seen them 3 times this year and NO FUCKING JOKE.. I just about creamed my panties 
Im a huge music buff and they seem to be a cross between old U2 and The Cure-both which I love. Seriously... give "a beautiful lie" a chance. Its haunting and the lyrics are tight.

i have to agree with Vixen ,i love their latest cd and have been listening to it for months.i enjoy him too as an actor ,but when i first heard 30 seconds to mars ,i liked their music but had no idea this was the band Jared Leto was in.it may be easy to hate him ,but he's goodlooking ,talented ,versatile ,honest enough to admit to bisexuality ,and he's certainly interesting.

must confess to buying 30stm because of jordan catalano. i was pleasantly surprised at the intensity and musicality of the cd. jared is a passionate musician who sings beautifully and puts everything into his performances, as do all of the band members. i saw thme in toronto and was blown away by the brilliance of their work. their fan base is growing and everyone should give it a chance.
