I think it something that most people just think, why risk it if they don't have to. But heck, that drastic a change could mean a break up. I did that years ago when I broke up with a bf.

Speaking as a pregnant women, you are able to dye your hair AFTER the first trimester. Studies are inconclusive about the effects of hair dye on a developing fetus, and most of today's coloring products have been made much safer than colorants used in the past. The trick is to not let the dye sit on your scalp to long, so your stylist has to be careful when applying it. Going dark like Britney also eliminates the need for multiple trips to the salon and increased exposure to harsh chemicals during pregnancy (mind you, she could have done it a little sooner) but she looks good for once. Her hair doesn't look fried.

I went to this place Ulta and asked which I should use because there are so many (I was still a blonde at the time) the beyatch gave me the wrong color my hair turned this orange/red color - hence while my hair is now brown! haha So my experience was not good w/ it!

Yep Thats the truth, its a bigger molecule so it basically just "falls out" of the hair shaft.
Wash as little as you can with a shampoo made for red dyed hair and with cool water and it will last a tiny bit longer.

So that's the trick!!! I have naturally blonde hair and put red highlights in and it looks good for about a week and then it's basically gone. I'll try the cool water trick to see if that works!

it prolly not a dye but a rinse. a rinse is just a temp dye to darken lighter hair and is like putting food coloring in ur hair

She does look okay in this pic, but I'd like to see more pics of this new Do. Sometimes on light skinned people, really dark hair looks fake and harsh in person. Angelina Jolie looks better because she has more of an olive (?) tone to her skin. That's also why Angelina looks garish when she makes her skin too light up against her hair.
It can also look really bad when light roots come out on dark hair. I agree with some other posters: If she wants to go darker, get those lowlights done. It's just more flattering.

You can dye your hair anytime you want, if you want to risk it. They say it's better after the first trimester when the risk of miscarriage drops, but I would rather not risk it myself. There's a lot of crap in dye these days. But she looks better, so I can't hate on her for it.

question for brass unicorn: If the excuse for no hat is that she's out for 5 minutes with the baby (in full blown sunshine that requires sunglasses for her), is she also out for 5 minutes on the baking hot sand in Miami? Or all the other times that SPF gets FRIED to a crisp? His eyes, head and skin are never protected like they should be. This time it might be ok, but don't act like she protects him on anything more than 5 min in the sun.

Dyeing your hair a darker color is perfectly fine while you are pregnant- it's bleaching that can be harmful to the fetus (hello, Gwen Stefani). So, if she doesn't want to maintain the blond, dyeing it darker is actually a sensible thing to do. Wow! Britney did something sensible!

I have been doing hair for years in a salon where all the girls have been doing it longer than me. we are elbow deep in color everyday... and we all have healthy babies.
2 questions:
Does a drastic hair color change like this freak babies out a bit since they go by visual recognition as well as voice?
Are do-it-yourself dyes ok to use when pregnant? (since it's obvious she's been doing her own hair color her entire pregnancy). Britney's natural color is a mousy brown - not blond.
