They built up the areas the Tsunami hit faster than we are taking care of our coast and NOLA. We are supposedly the richest, most powerful country in the world and we can't even remove the garbage left by Katrina. We can't even resume rebuilding these cities at a faster pace--between government, insurance companies and unions--we have royally f--d the coast and New Orleans. AT least Brad is doing something. One home or two homes may not mean anything to the world, but they mean a hell of a lot to the folks that live in them.
Instead of criticizing, get off your asses and go down and help. They need it. The coast is littered with garbage from the hurricane, stray animals, people still without homes, people without jobs that desperately need help. So like I said, shut your yawning traps and get your fat asses down there and do something positive.

No, Mr. Architect it takes a long time to get land ready to build on it. In the best of conditions, it takes 12 months for land developers to get a subdivision ready for homes to be built. That's infrastructure like sewers, roads, sidewalks, electric & cable - along with clearing and moving dirt for home elevations and drainage. Add environmental issues as reclaiming polluted land (oil, industry contaminants) and it's going to take much longer. So New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are going to take at least a year for basic clean up. Once construction is able to start, it should be a short time to see results that everyone including Anderson Cooper & Brad Pitt wanted to see a month after Katrina.
I hope this is real help, and not Brad trying to get in the news for being a good guy, and get the focus off his personal life, but I bet he is glad to get away from all the kiddies for a while, any one with kids needs a break..he'll get a permant one soon enough,,IMO

The 30-year-old actress issued a statement late Friday (02 September 05) saying she was "shocked" at the images coming from New Orleans, a city she said is "very close to my heart".

Hey, just as long as they hurry up with the rebuilding and all the Katrina criminals can get out of Texas, instead of sitting on their asses living off the dole. I have family who lives in New Orleans and they are amazed at the damage we had and how resilent we (the people of the Gulf Coast) are.

there were bus companies ALL OVER THE NATION which were trying to get into New Orleans to help people, and the red tape surrounding that contract with an out of state bus company prevented those buses from getting in there. They were refused entry.
and Mayor Nagin was told repeatedly by the feds that the 'buses' were coming and that HE COULD NOT put people on buses that were not in the contract. he was told to sit tight to wait for the air conditioned buses. BUSES WERE REFUSED ENTRY, huh? and the Mayor sure as hell couldn't use schoolbuses (a liability issue?) -- schoolbuses, by the way, which were COMPLETELY UNDER WATER before that photo was taken. There was oil and other stuff in the water surrounding those buses. Those buses were not fit to transport people officially. The 18 year old kid, Jabbar Gibson, who got 100 people to Houston -- by the way, why hasn't the President ever had anything to say about him or tried to meet him or whatever? -- was damn lucky to be able to do what he did.
Mayor Nagin blew up for a reason, and he had every right to. Just like every other person who was actually there blew up because they were told one thing, while the feds (and the state, to be fair) said another. The right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing. So don't try to blame Nagin because all you know is a photo sent around the world in order to absolve culpability from those who deserve to be blamed, and not the story behind the photo.
Besides, remember what happened during Hurricane Rita, when that one school bus with the old folks blew up and killed those people because of a faulty oxygen tank situation?

Nagin could have and should have comandeered every school bus, city bus or dumptruck if he had to to get his people out. The very least he could have done is let the red cross set up shelters with stockpiles of food, medicine, water and blankets.
