I live in the SF Bay area and unless you're walking down the street in the Castro, people will stop and stare (even there tourists will snap your picture "oh look honey! there are two GROWN MEN HOLDING HANDS" "ooo" "Aaaah" "quick honey get a pic so we can show this back home").
But the south bay (ie Silicon Valley) and the East Bay (ie christian-land) are not as tolerant.
