I live in Slidell, LA which is north east of NOLA and actually closer to the eye of the storm. Our 6 mo. old house was flooded with 5 ft. of water, but we fixed it and got on with our lives. We received help from the red cross and churches, so we are very grateful for all who donated.

Celine might have been a tad over-dramatic with the flapping of the arms and the CONSTANT wiping of the tears. I mean, come on, I know you're crying but you don't have to remind us every few seconds. But I do have to agree with Chillin that at least it wasn't some type of statement that she was reading straight from the teleprompter. Also, I've always thought she was a good singer but the fact that she could sing live and sound just as good as her records caused me to have more respect for her. You wouldn't hear Britney, Paris or even Madonna sounding that good a capella.
Second, black people weren't the only ones stealing in NOLA. There were white people right there with them. But to the people that think there was nothing wrong with them stealing televisions, what is wrong with you? There was no electricity, half the city was flooded and sooner or later these people were going to have to leave the city. Why do you need a television?
Also, I live in Memphis, which is where alot of evacuees ended up and the thing that bothered me was some of the businesses got together and had a job fair. Alot of people showed up and everyone was offered a job but only ONE PERSON took a job, the rest were looking for handouts.

The people of NOLA were warned in advance that Katrina had the makings of a Cat 5 storm and were ordered to evacuate the city. I don't feel sorry for people who didn't evacuate because they wanted to stay for the looting. I felt sorry for the nursing home residents, hospital patients and the elderly who were left behind and abandoned by family, friends and their government. They, and by that I mean fam, friends and govt, could have done more sooner for these people.
Also, it's not 100% Bush's fault. The LA governor and Ray Nagin shoulder just as much blame. People should stop looking for reasons to bash Bush and start looking for truthful answers as to why some people in NOLA were done wrong. They would find that it was more state and local level government officials than they would like to admit or acknowledge.

Amen to Heidi. I don't know if y'all remember another hurricane called RITA last year. It was just as strong (perhaps slightly stronger) than Katrina and there are still people who are not in their homes today. My parents were displaced for a couple months. But did you see Rita victims on the news crying? No. Texas took care of its own. And the Katrina victims it was housing. Stop blaming the feds for something the state and local governments should have taken care of.

She's completely insane, but let's remember that she has pretty much been a mega-star from a young age, and so we can't expect that she'd have a great grip on how to react with poise or in context of "real" people. I think she's sincere, and I'm sort of touched by her passion, even if it is psychotic and accidentally condescending to the people in New Orleans. One of the big problems with the U.S. these days is that only nuts like Ann Coulter are willing to make fools of themselves to bring attention to a point. We need some nuts on the other side, too.

This clip really made me cry. Celine is a good person, and no one can disupte that. It's nice to see someone who can speak from their heart and really feel compassion for the struggles that the Katrina victims went through. You guys need to stop fucking around and making fun of shit like this. I don't recall President BUSH-SHIT displaying any REAL or GENUINE compassion or distress over the situation! She was over dramatic, over the top, and it came off as a wee bit faux. I do not disagree with what she said, just the way in which she screeched it. And it had NOTHING to do with her accent. And before anyone jumps on me for "doing nothing in the aftermath of Katrina", I did a few crews of the Habitat for Humanity Rebuild.

This is strange to see this again. I am from New Orleans. I was also in Vegas right after the storm for a family members wedding (there is not enough time and nobody would really care anyway how the wedding party and close family actually got there) But the day before the wedding we were in our hotel rooms at the Flamingo when we got a call from Celine's people offering guests from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama tickets to her show. We were not going to go because honestly no one left the television long enough to do anything. Well we finally decided to go after we saw her on Larry King Live. The first thing that she did was say that she was very nervous about going on the stage after what she said on LKL and she got a huge applause and standing ovation. She put on a beautiful show. But I still felt very, very, guilty being there when all that was going down from where I lived. We were all in such a daze during that time that none of us knew what to do. You could tell that she felt so much better for getting approval from the audience after her speach on LKL. I know that she was sincere but she was also about publicity. I saw it.
I have new respect for Celine.....her heart was at the right place.....she just was too emotional and could not speak correctly which made it funny I must say....'CHEEZE WHIZZ"....CLASSIC

The one comment that I think it's very true is that the US spends a lot of money training the navy and the army to go under very difficult circumstances (war) and for the outside world is very hard to understand why they were having such a problem with New Orleans. Everybody knows that the US is a very powerful country when it comes to military tactics and training, so couldn't those skills be used here?
