finally watched the video, with the sound off. the video is racist, a studio gangster's fantasy:
a) first two cars they pass have white boys in them. the girls respond favorable, the reaction shots between the white boys and the car have some length.
b) next couple cars have negroes in them. the girls aren't shown giving the same reaction times they do to the white boys; too many jump cuts. the black girl driving gives one car the gasface (!) instead of flirting with them like the white girls did the white boys; and in another case the negroes even throw their hands up as if 'what the fuck?' because the girls have obviously dissed them without reacting to them at all.
what the fuck? a black man put this together? who is he selling this shit to?
that was the second thing that struck me, the racism. the first thing that struck me is that the girls spent WAAAAY too much time in that immoveable droptop. their movements, with the sound down, told me that either they couldn't really dance or that they wanted to dance and be free but somebody wasn't trusting them to actually truly show their stuff. so we got a lot of stiff shoulder movement, and girls preening over one another instead of moving as a group, as one. the girls are competing with one another in the freaking car. what's the point of yet another 'girls night out' video if the girls act like they're gonna break away first chance they get?
there was too much movement of the cameras when the chicks actually stepped out of the car onto the soundstage to show their stuff. choreography reminded me of competitive college cheer, and that's alright, i guess. there's worse. but there were so many jumps it gave the impression these chicks couldn't be trusted to hold anyone's attention by themselves, so the camera has to fake it. i don't think that's fair to danity kane.
