I'm excited to see this movie. Although I've known of it for years (only the title), I was unfamiliar with the actual plot of Dreamgirls until the buzz for this movie started. Sounds right up my alley!

I'm tired of singers/completelt random famous people (like paris hilton) getting acting jobs just because they're famous. theres lots of very talented actresses working in hollywood, or not even working at all, who dont get scripts automatically sent to them as soon as they decide they want to try acting.

You guys, it sounds to me like Fantasia was a product of her environment, i.e. born to young uneducated parents who may have had their own problems (chemical dependency, divorce, never married, illiterate themselves?) I can tell fromt the posts here that some of you can't relate to things of that nature, but it happens every day. If you're in an environment where education is not stressed, you could end up illiterate.
Furthermore, it is not an excuse. She has pulled herself up from the situation at a very young age, and will probably continue to be in the spotlight for many years to come. I am not defending her, but i CAN understand how something like that may have happened. Not a diehard Fannie fan, but I did buy her CD and was pleasantly surprised.
