Just something to take note. Hepatitus C is the worst of the Hep-variants and there is no cure for it. You could get a new liver, but you are basically buying time as there is no cure for Hep C. Someone can also be infected with Hep C and not even know it until years later when the symptoms come around and a doctor decides to test for it. It is the next big virus trainwreck, as most could have it and could be spreading it in many ways, but it doesn't cause problems until much later in life.
I would like to add something funny or catty anout this, but it is not really something to joke about.

If you go to any LA rock n roll AA mtg they all "share" about their hep C..all x junkies have it...and most rehabs test for it..so you pretty much know you have it within week one of rehab...bummer but true. Pammy went very public about hers and wrote about it in Jane magazine and did the talk show circuit. I dont know why these rock stars dont work to educate kids about it because its a nasty thing to fight and if you are not rich...a new liver isnt something that is a possibility..so it was be a great thing to talk about. W magazine had a big glossy page about the comeback of coke and heroin and shooting drugs are everywhere with kids in clubs ie the rich brats in LA and NYC..and I am sure they have NO CLUE what hep C is or where there liver lives in their size 0 bodies...

My dad has this. They still don't know how he got it. Not only that but they can't even give him any medicaton to help him with it. They draw his blood every week but that's about it. "Hepatitis C can't be spread unless a person has direct contact with infected blood. This means a person who has hepatitis C can't pass the virus to others through casual contact such as sneezing, coughing, shaking hands, hugging,kissing, sharing eating utensils or drinking glasses, swimming in a pool, using public toilets or touching doorknobs."
So unless the Hep-C infected person doing coke had a really bloody nose...it sure as hell didn't happen that way.

You can have it for years and not know it. Hep C causes scarring of the liver and it can get more and more scarred with no symptoms over 2 decades... but once it hits 50% scarred, that's when it starts to show. when you no longer have half your liver function it really, really starts to impact every aspect of your health.
The liver is a filtering organ. When you can't properly filter toxins, they build up and poison your body. You turn paleish green. Your energy is totally zapped. Your ability to maintain a normal body temperature is fucked. You get hollowed eyes and just pray to GOD you move up the liver transplant list.
I saw my dad go through the stages of hep C for 3 years and then he died.
NOTHING to joke about. Sad. Very sad. And they knew NOTHING about it in the days when they were shooting up and whatnot.

Sorry to post another downer...but the best way to help against the oncoming Hep-C epidemic is being an organ donor (checking the box on the back of your driver's license).
I know from personal experience with this, alot of people in this country die simply because there isn't enough organs to help those in need. Not many people are put in a position where they may think it is important...but in hospitals everywhere, it is a very real issue and families lose loved ones because the the supply doesn't satisfy demand. It doesn't have to be that way though as it is a matter of education and an awareness for those in need.

2. Anal sex. Highly prevalent among young people. Most often a young girls first experienmces are with an OLDER man.
3. Manicures and pedicures. For the same reasons that tattooing is risky. The virus lives a long time in an environment and risk is highly dependent on who was in that chair before you.
4. The WORKS of drug use, not simply the needles. Now, think about children in a drug using environment and needle sticks, exposures to he waste and the neglect of wasted parents.
5. Unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners. Monogamy means one partner in your whole lifetime. Think about your sexual history. Do you know the medical history of every person you ever had sex with?
6. How about the ignorance about hepC being considered a risk? Read this to open your eyes. Do you have kids?

7. Think about this: IF celebrities have access to the best medical care, why did it take 11 years after a test was FDA approved for Tyler to get tested? Add ignorance in the medical community to this list of risks.
So, GET TESTED to know your own status. Do not depend on the ignorance of supposed "experts." Like the new guidelines for HIV, routine testing is the only way we will ever know anything.
