Don't quote me on this, but I believe that we in the good ole USA tend to abort our unwanted babies. At least, the blue eyed blonde ones. The only kids to adopt in the US tend to be the ones taken away by social services from their parents- who tend to perhaps have behavioral problems, or health problems b/c their precious mommies were crack addicts. It takes a special couple to adopt a non-newborn w/ issues.

A lot of people get a baby from a different country because well sometimes it's easier. All you have to do is have money. Here you have to go through months sometimes years of paper work and legal fees, while in some countries it's like a drive throught but some countries now require the "Americans" to spend time in the country and can take only 18 months. Also some celebs could not get babies in this country because well there crazy and social services can't give them a baby, like Aj(I LOVE HER) but she did try to off herself ones and would not be able to adopted a baby here !!!!!!! Geeeessss that was a lot !

Myself - I can only speak for the "ordinary" American here (as opposed to the degenerate "celebs")and not even with authority as I'm not an American but a foreigner who lives and works here, but I was trying to adopt domestically and the list of parents-to-be is much longer than the list of available babies. The criteria for adopting is so hard and unless you have endless money and can buy your American baby (essentially, paying whatever the mother wants in addition to her medical costs) it's heartbreaking to delve into the paperwork-and-obstacle-ridden domestic adoption cycle. And then add to that if you are non-American like me, you get shut out altogether cos you have to be American to adopt an American baby but oh, it's okay for Americans to adopt any other baby around the world.

Part of the answer to the question of why Americans are leaving the U.S. to adopt is this. There is an unspeakable amount of red tape and heartbreak in adoption here in the U.S. I know people who have adopted babies outside the U.S. because they have either 1) waited years and never gotten to the top of some mythical "list;" 2) they have been turned down at the whim of teenage birth mothers; 3) they have been ripped off by birth mothers with whom they signed contracts, paid her living and medical expenses during her pregnancy only to find she skipped town at the last minute; 4) they have otherwise suffered the supreme disappointment and devastation of the birth mother changing her mind at the last minute, after the baby has been born, and in some cases even after they have taken the baby home; 4) they've wanted to adopt two babies at once, natural siblings or otherwise, and again, red tape in the U.S. became such an issue that it was cheaper, faster, and a better outcome was guaranteed adopting abroad.
I'm not taking a stand for or against the practice of adopting babies internationally, but based on the above, I understand why some American couples do just that.

Just confirms the heartbreak I went through before I found out at the end all those factors could have been avoided in my case had I known I couldn't adopt because I wasn't American. Wish that bell had chimed earlier in the game. Also, international adoption also is a no no for a working foreigner in America cos again, you or your spouse (one of you) has to be American. But Americans living other countries like Ireland for example, can adopt in their domestic market or internationally.
And this....She asked for boys only....She had wanted a girl but changed her mind.

Sorry- I am very emotional about this- I have family that have tried adopting for years and they FINALLY succeeded but not without MANY trials and tribulations. It's very sad. I know that they also experience a teenage mother who promised them everyhting and then yanked it at the very last moment...to later find out that the mother changed her mind anyway after the child had suffered physical abuse...That poor, poor baby girl.

The statistics show most kids adopted are White kids. My sister adopted and so I know what I am talking about. The statistics are alarming. Adoption Agencies are like a shopping mall. Kids get all dolled up to impress who is adopting only to be turned away if they are older, non-White, etc. Most applicants request a White baby. And statistics also show that Blacks have a harder time being approved for Adoption. Again, research it. So my issue is the hypocrisy. We do nothing about the process of adoption or about poor kids here but the issue comes into focus once we see people find an alternative and adopt overseas. Americans are simply not at home worrying about poor kids in adoption agencies. Americans who have the means would rather get yet another hummer or enlist their naturally born kids into yet another yoga, boxing, painting, meditation class before they are five years old rather than consider adoptions. We give the kids we have way too much while half of what we give them could serve an adopted child here.
So that is why I say shut the hell up when people adopt overseas! We clearly have shown we don't give a crap about poor kids here. Why now???

That's why I agree with LA in that if you have a bit of money, $20k for example, you can adopt internationally (China, Russia, South America etc) with much higher success rate--(still a lot of paperwork, but at least with almost a guarantee of obtaining a child.

Maybe the reason that most people in the US looking to adopt request a white baby is because they too are white. There's really nothing wrong with wanting a child of your own race. It's just sad that most babies that need to be adopted are of a different race. I doubt black parents looking to adopt would want a white baby, so whatever.

Madonna has added another member to her brood and adopted a one-year-old boy from the impoverished African country of Malawi.
The mother of two chose the boy from a group of 12 children that were specially chosen from four orphanages prior to her arrival. And you thought getting into Hyde was difficult!

She had stated she would adopt any race, but then wasn't good enough to do so because she wasn't 'diverse'. The criteria for adoption is just so insane.

For all those saying why don't Americans adopt from here - do me a favor and call social services. Inquire about how to adopt a child and find out what is involved. Find out how many years it will be before a child or sibling group is considered legally free from their drug addicted or abusive parents. Ask about the problems that child might have as a result of being dragged through a poorly run system. Ask yourself if you are truly prepared for handling that. Be informed before you judge. And yes, i'd imagine even if you live in the worst area in the U.S., it is still better than other parts of the world where there is no govt assistance.

The first thing that popped up in my mind was the Simpsons episode where Homer and Marge went on a spa vacation leaving the kids with Granpa Simpson.
For some reason, someone called Child Protection Services, who visited the Simpson home on the day when coincidentally, Lisa and Bart were sent home from school in potato sacks after being diagnosed with having lice, the house was a complete mess and Maggie was sitting in a puddle with a note pinned to her back which said "STUPID BABY".

The problem with a lot of people is they know they only want white kids, but they know that saying so would leave them open to charges of racism (we will get to that point later), so they bitch about the process being complicated/ there not being enough kids etc. The fact is there are plenty of kids. She slept with pretty much every co star she could (male and female). There are so many stories about Dietrich and her sex life. In a People Magazine special edition over the summer they listed the numbers of children adopted internationally and China lead the pack with about 8,000 annually, then Russia with about 7,000 annually, Guatemala followed with about 5,000 annually and there were a few other countries that followed but Ethiopia was last on the list with only about 440 annually. I was shocked that the numbers there were so low. But then again I should have known because just about everywhere I see the cute little Chinese babygirl/toddler in a stroller or shopping cart with white parents.
I don't know why so many act so surprised that people choose to adopt from Africa or any other country when international adoption has been going on for a while now. So its overdue for Africa's orphans to get some much needed help.

on a purely superficial level, Ethiopian kids or people are I think the MOST beautiful people on the planet.
I used to think people adopt kids who are cute but then these stats refute this because Ethiopian people are truly striking and stunning. Literally (I lived near little Ethiopia in DC for a while) every woman looks like Iman. Seriously.

Her mother could not leave because there was a war going on, it's not like you can just get on a ship or plane and go to America. Her mother felt like many Germans the Nazi's were not bad and would do no harm. By the time they saw the real face of the Nazi's it was too late.

There is a photograph of her and Sean taken by Herb Ritts....It almost says it all...It's not a very well-known photo....She is kneeling and her head is bent down....All you can see her hair....Sean's head is on her knees and she has her hands on him....You can actually feel and see the love that they have for each other.

It's probably not so much a race thing as maybe its a little easier to be seen in a grocery store with an Asian baby as opposed to an Ethiopian or other African baby. Couples may feel that they will get less stares because the skin color difference is not as drastic.
I am glad that people have adopted in droves from countries such as China and Guatemala, America is way too hung up on black/white, dark skin versus light skin.

Am I the only one who thinks Guy and Madonna are the Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor of their time. Before you guys attack me let me explain. Elizabeth was this huge movie star, she was a diva difficult, dramatic and selfish. Richard was probably the only person who told her to go fuck herself sometimes. Now Madonna is this huge star who is a diva, who is selfish and Guy is probably the only person in her life who tells her to go fuck herself.
I never forget the making off Swept Away. There is a scene in the movie were Madonna has to dance. She is rehearsing and discussing the scene with Guy. She tells him she wants to do it in this this beautifull Versace dress, Guy however has something else in mind. When he tells her she tells him in a sweet way "But darling I want the Versace dress." He says "No" then she goes mad. She starts jumping up and down like a little girl who doesn't get her way, screaming at him and you hear all these bleeps probably because she wasn't saying nice things lol. Guy lets her have her diva moment. But guess what she did wear the Versace dress. I thought it was funny because for years I've read about Madonna and her jumping up and down and stamping her foot if she doesn't get her way. But this was the first time I saw it. Other parts of the making off show him pissing her off because he ate her cracker (her only cracker for the whole day). He ate it and now she has nothing to eat lol. His excuss? He says to her that he looked at the bag with the cracker and thought it was his because it had a G on it (Guy). He then shows it to the cammera and you see this big M on it. Other parts show them in a loving way. I really believe they love eachoter although I think he wants to kill her sometimes.

She also invests $ 3 million into that project even if it comes from tax breaks and/or Kablalala it's still $ 3 million. Madonna is the biggest female celebrity of all-time up with Marilyn Monroe, and even others icons like Elvis Presley.
That being said, it doesn't surprise me she would adopt. First, she said she wanted more children, but it's too risky , why not adopt a child where the survival rate is so poor? Asian babies are adopted because girl babies are thrown in dumpsters. Many families in third world countries do not have access or the education about birth control, and abortion is not an option they have either. Madonna's going to be spending a lot of money in Africa, in the millions, and I believe her intentions are good. Why not use her money for something that will really help somebody. It gets on my nerves when someone tries to downplay a celebrity giving money to charity or adopting. The fact of the matter is, it's getting done. Who cares who's giving it? If Madonna does adopt, she's going to be put on a probation period until next year. They don't let you just adopt a child.
About Guy Richie, I agree. He's so boring. His career's in the toilet, and yes, it's probably because of Madonna, but let's face it, he does the same movie over and over and over again. It's not Madonna's fault that he's a one trick pony.

Yes I am skeptical about foundations because they are there for a reason. There is a reason Jolie and Pitt started a foundation a couple of weeks ago. It sounds nobel but the main reason has to do with the fact that it allows them tax breaks, because as much as they want to help the poor I'm pretty sure they don't want to give up their life style for it. And by having a foundation it alows rich people to keep their lifestyle but also be "nobel" for the poor and needy. It's a well known fact an accountant and lawyer tells their clients to start a foundation (most of the times it only excists on paper) when they want to give to chairity.
