See, I can't hack Sea World. A good zoo, okay... it's not ideal, but okay... (a good one, with large naturalized enclosures). And Disneyland is fun. But Sea World is just too awful.

So what about pets? Or other domesticated animals?

I pick on San Diego because you can follow the progression, moving steadily away from nature into a construct, or caricature of nature.
Miz Geek, I don't have a problem with pets in the abstract, but I think domesticated animals are abominations. Albeit tasty ones.
Melding both comments -- Sea World, Disney, and domesticated animals all reflect the "civilized" inclination to only be comfortable with animals who are what we want (or craft) them to be, rather than what they are.
As a model, how does this instruct us regarding the manner in which the dominant culture views women and minorities? Heh.

As long as women and minorities are properly 'domesticated' they're safe, I suppose.

You totally forgot about "Disney's California Adventure," which is probably the ninth circle of hell. A theme park about California. IN CALIFORNIA.

I haven't seen that, it will have to go on the list. Surely it would have been hipper (hipper?) to call it MetaCaliforniaDisney, the concession stands could sell dramamine and extra barf bags.
