You know, I have literally had people say to me, when I've made this argument, that "the Indians are all dead" or that the Redskins/Braves are "honoring" Indians. Which, in combination with a friend I had in highschool who *did* wear blackface one halloween, only to be MORTIFIED and ashamed when our (black) band teacher took her aside and explained why that was so offensive, inclines me to think that the girls who said that they honestly didn't know it was offensive might have been telling the truth. People can be remarkably stupid.
On other topics, haven't you been weenieng out on a lot of things lately? Tsk tsk.

(not very) Fascinating, more like pissy, the ways that the continued occupation of first nations land and the domination of first peoples is normalized in so many ways. The genocide and resultant apartheid, rez schools and the lot of it must necessarily be erased from everyday reckoning if everyone who has immigrated here voluntarily and even those of us who have not, who nonetheless seek to make peace with our displacement, are to manufacture denial based narratives of belonging, citizenship and nationhood. Shit. Shitty.
