That is a completely precious picture. Guard that thing like Fort Knox! Check out the hair bow. Too cool. Plus now I wish my last name was Brilliant. I would be Ms. Brilliant. I would probably even make my kids call me that.
I have some great formidable women in my background too - but unfortunately no wonderful pictures to illustrate my stories. You're so lucky!

Wow. we might be related! My mother's family came from the Azores as well, and Amaral is a family last name back there somewhere; I will have to check with the cousin that is into all this stuff. I do know that my great-grandmother came around the Horn on a boat in the 1870s and settled in Folsom, California, outliving three husbands.
