If I were cynical, I'd point out that some people (not necessarily me, though) have suggested that blogging is remarkably similar to certain solitary sexual activites, that will remain unspoken here. And let's face it - what is blogging (for most) but having the hubris to think that your thoughts and experiences are somehow so interesting that the rest of the world that they should be on display for all to see? That's if I were cynical, mind you.
Now, personally, I think that blogging is simply a great form of mass communication, so that loved ones can keep up with you - an on-going conversation carried on in pieces, less intrusive than mass-emailing everyone; a central repository for talking with friends and family as they desire. When viewed in that fashion, the pretension seems to melt away - we're not publishing for the world. (Although if the world wishes to chime in, they're free to do so.) When viewed in that fashion, blogging is no more narcissistic than any other conversation we have in other forms, phone, e-mail, mail, face-to-face, or otherwise.

Have to say Miriam that I look forward to reading/seeing your blog every morning. What better way to start my day than to see what's up from my favorite sisters perspective....thought provoking, humorous and fills in the gaps when we are unable to hook up by phone due to schedules, etc. Big bonus to see the Tobster as well ....
