I have a good example of both.
When my mom graduated college in '51 with a math degree, she came back home to teach high school math. The principal told her she was too close in age to the boys she would be teaching, and it would be better if she taught elementary.
My neice, her grandaughter, had the same career choice, but after a few years liked working at Starbucks better.
