What I don't get is that stateside, for the first time in history, a black man is making a credible run for POTUS. Yet, we have black people in Texas being called 'Canadians' and Canadian black kids in Toronto trying to start their own segregated school system?? Dr. King must have rolled over in his grave this week.
When I'm in Canada and want to secretly insult my black brothers and sisters, I just call 'em "American." :D

I will admit to this being a term used in Detroit. I always figured people did it because often there are a ton of Canadians around so it sounds like a perfectly plausible comment.
And, ftr, having been in the business for a long time actual Canadians tip just fine, while the dark Canadian version often REALLY suck at tipping. I worked at a joint that had a white/mixed audience up until 10 pm ... then it switched to mostly black until 2 am. If you didn't make your money by 10 you weren't gonna make any. Most of the staff was black - and then felt exactly as I did.

My Dad was stabbed in the back by a "Black" Panther while on leave in Calif.
It's twice as bad in Canada. We have to refer to blacks as African-American-Canadians--and now we can't even call them Canadian's because it may be derogatory.
The old folks here still say colored or neegra (negro). Out of habit I said colored during a conversation with co-workers, not in the context of a slur either, and the room went static.
The trouble isn't black skin, but thin skin.

This is even more shocking because I think about what the liberals told me about the Black Panthers: they only served "breakfast" to poor kids.
