Wow! Your wedding was very traditional, more than I would have guessed!
My ceremony was pretty non-traditional. Had a Celtic ditty played on fiddle and guitar as we marched in and out, did secular vows, read Adrianne Rich and an Old Testament verse on gardening, no engagement ring, outdoors, no "altar," just a pond and the mountains, no wedding party, just a best man (a woman, actually) and best woman wearing whatever the hell they wanted (both wore sun dresses, tho' my best woman contemplated a tux)...
Immediately after the ceremony we stripped off our clothes and swam in the pond in our underwear, as did a good portion of those in attendance...
For the honeymoon, we brought a dozen of our closest friends on a trek into the Bob Marshall Wilderness...
We did have a "rehearsal" dinner and a catered reception with wedding cake (chocolate huckleberry, yum) -- but to me communal, ceremonial feasts are a joy and should be indulged in whenever possible...

I found you via Google. I'm in the midst of wedding planning, and struggling with making it uniquely us (which is not v. traditional), plus eliminating the sexist elements.
Your post was v. reassuring. The traditional vows creep me out too! When my dad walks me down the aisle, I think I am going to say "I give myself", and have my parents say that they support my decision.

Chrissie, thanks for stopping by. I still think weddings are fun and wish you good luck with yours.

Oh, I think they can be fun. It's just harder to plan something non-traditional. I just blogged about this - you get a lot more resistance from vendors and families. Whereas it would be perfectly acceptable to have a "princess" theme.
