I really just hate the phrase "buy our way to victory". Uck. What incredible consumerism!
jj, you might be interested in a post I wrote a few weeks ago about these kind of novelty products being plain old crass consumerism, even as they're lampooning it.
Good post (re: Axe and Bettie Page, etc.)! It's hard for me to shop for the things I really need/want, because those things are always surrounded by piles and piles of crap. With the election coming up, all of the cheap plastic schlock has flags and elephants and yellow ribbons. It's absurd.
