The explanation I read said that women were the ones who did the fruit gathering and the reds showed what was ripe and edible so we're sort of programmed for that. Men did the meat hunting and they went for the darker colors, not sure what the basis for that is, other than most meat animals are in the brown ranges and they graze on grass, which is in the blue/green range. It sounds plausible to me, but what do I know? I prefer blues/greens/purples over red/pink/orange/yellow.

vesta, I'm not really convinced of anything by what I've seen about this study, except maybe that women like purple.

The so-called masculine and feminine colors used to be the opposite. Red pink and purple were for boys (signifying royalty), blue was for girls (signifying purity, like the Virgin Mary). The change was somewhat recent.
Watcb the old Disney cartoons and you'll see that the princesses are usually in blue dresses.

I don't take it 100% seriously, but i found myself mildly irked - because i hate, loathe and despise the colour pink.
Granted, i'm not what most people would call the average girl/woman. lol.

Rose, maybe the previous color associations were purely social in nature, and the current ones are related to biology

Ah, no.
The change is sort of like the Chinese custom (not at all universal) of calling well-loved children lesser names so demons wont be attracted to them.
I seem to remember a something about boys and girls thought to be protected by confusing the evil spirits via the wrong gender colors or some such silliness.
We're talking recent as in 100ish years, not decades.

Explanation I heard was that boys were dressed in blue to protect them from evil spirits, and girls were dressed in pink because it went nicely with blue.
Yeah, girls kinda get slighted in that one.

The whole pink / blue thing is even within my lifetime. Girls were not expected to like pink when I was growing up. It seems only within the last 15 - 20 years that marketing has decided pink is the color to use when hocking products at women.
I am not a fan of pink but it's one of my son's favorite colors.
