Talk Back to Scholar Here... Civil discourse required, but we value clarity over agreement.

Your comparison is full of FAIL.
The Bong Hits 4 Jesus students displayed their sign off-campus, at a non-school-sanctioned event. Under those circumstances, the school had no right to abridge their First Amendment rights. A Confederate flag on school grounds (especially considering the opinion thus implied regarding their principal) is certainly materially disruptive and thus within the school's rights to discipline. There is a significant difference in the two situations.
The "liberal" ACLU has also defended Christian students' rights to pray in school and make religious speeches at commencement ceremonies. Are you suggesting that the First Amendment should only apply to speech that you, personally, find non-offensive?

Of course, free speech should be protected for all, that is my point. Speech with which we disagree should be met with more speech, even as we grant our teachers and principals wide latitude to maintain order in the schools.
