That's what the Supreme Court's decision was, essentially backing up the 3rd Circuit's decision with the exception of spousal notification which we all know Alito was the only dissenter out of 3 Judges.
However, when you look at his reasoning, it makes perfect sense because he believed himself to be consistent with the undue burden standard O'Connor herself set forth in several other parental notification cases. It was very interesting and educational overall.
Today I think we're hearing Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood of New Hampshire. All these legal stuff is only making me want to go to law school that much more.
Did you know that someone sent in a charitable donation to Planned Parenthood in Jenna's name (from the Chuck and Jenna morning show on the Pointe Radio station)?
They sent her a thank you note and put her on their mailing list and she's really, really pissed about it.
I swear, I do not understand this whole "abstinence only" education thing. IT DOES NOT WORK. Sheesh. People, I know in a perfect world, everything would go the way you want, but really...
The "crime" of having sex before marriage (which I personally don't think is wrong) gets compounded because kids don't know how to use a condom or aren't on the pill, and then they get STDs and illegal abortions, or end up raising a kid that they hate whose very existence ends up keeping them from living their own life.
I have no objections to having kids, obviously. I have one. But my husband and I were *ready* for her, when she got here. We wanted her. And I think that makes a huge difference. I'm sure I will never say to my kid "When I was 18, getting married and having a kid was what you *did*. I wasn't given any other options and so that's what I did, and I wish to god I hadn't." Yeah, that did wonders for my self-esteem.
I know. I hate all the damned laws restricting abortion for the most part because, like Stevens and Blackmun, I don't believe they further the state's interest at all. It's all equally frustrating.
