I calculate that ($27,000 per year) to be $12.93 per hour for a 40-hour week.
Makes you appreciate how difficult it is for people trying to get by on a minimum wage. And how infuriating it that wealth in this country is being increasingly concentrated in the top few percent of the wealthiest. And the middle class is making little progress in terms of real wages. And yet our government thinks a priority is to rebuild Iraq. It’s time "we the people” took back control of our own government and our own destiny. By not participating in the political process we leave special interests to fill that void.

Yes, I did some calculating of my own earlier today and came up with something similar. It was very rough, let me tell you, lol.
Oh most definitely does it help me to appreciate the struggle of those making $5.15/hour or rather, anything less than $10 since that is what is truly needed to live in this current capitalist society.
I often say it can always be better and it can always be worse.
