I'm really quite intrigued with this discovery. It does open the door to a lot of possibilities. I'll be following this story very closely.

I think finding oil would be must more useful at this point than water.

Space exploration is always interesting. I wonder what the next Mars mission will be. Will it be a manned mission to explore the red planet further?

My sentiments exactly. That's what the world is hungry for right now. On the other hand, with more oil to burn, that would mean more pollution for our planet. Oil discovery on Mars won't be that good after all.

Looking at the trend and of quests and discoveries made on mass, I think NASA is more interested in answering the question whether life can be possible on mars, more than the question of life ever existing in mars.
Are we looking for a second home? Is the Earth not enough?

I thinks it's more of a long range plan for NASA. With the Earth's population growing, alternative settlements ahve to be found for future generations. Probably in the next century?

Hi friend,
Do u think its feasible to spend so much money to just search life on Mars and then go for a living there? aren't we alright on the earth???
Thanks,
Ojal

This truly is an amazing find, But what does it mean in our lifetime? Possibly the American tax payers funding something that will never benefit them in there lifetime, Nor in their children's lifetime. I agree with Trench, money is far better spent on the search for oil, And research for the future of Earth.

Like what I said in a previous comment, I think it's long range planning. Probably for the next century or two when the Earth's population is too big.

With America investing heavily on this exploration, I think this means that America will also claim it as its territory, and reap the benefits of any future explorations.

There's one problem here. Everyone assumes that life needs water and oxygen. Can aliens live without water and oxygen? Why not? Does that mean a planet without water have no living things or aliens?

That's a good point. For all we know, aliens and other organisms exist in other planets without air and water.
