By the time we reach the end of the Olympics, more of these incidents, intrigues etc., will be added - it's sad really - it kind of taints the spirit of the games somehow - but heck nothing is perfect, just would be nice if more people played with open cards.

Hmmmm! We never heard about this controversy. I feel sorry for the child who was being robbed and what a shame for Lin Miaoke and her family who allowed the deceit to happen.
As seen in the pictures of the two, to me, the one with crooked teeth is more beautiful. There must be some reasons why the director handpicked Lin. It's too early for the two kids to learn all the bad side of life.

You're right. More will probably come out in the coming days. One of these is the alleged faked birth certificates of the Chinese gymnasts.

I agree. I wonder how Lin would feel ten years from now, when she fully realizes that she was part of China's cheating.

Except for a few controversies, this year’s Summer Games is running smoothly. China has been piling up on the golds in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Medal Count/Tally since day one. And the US and the rest are having a hard time catching up.

this Olympic has been nothing but controversial since the beginning started with the issues on Tibet and now these. I wonder what else would be next.
I am not sure whether such things had happened with other hosts of the Olympic but were "duly" ignored but when it comes to China, everybody starts to suddenly become so concerned about this and that...
I am just wondering... Cheers!

Another one is already brewing. The Chinese women's gymnstic team is being accused of fielding underage gymnasts. When I saw the clip yesterday they did look very young.

For some reason, the fact that they substituted the girl and had the "pretty" girl lip-sync isn't very surprising to me. The Chinese really wanted to deliver a hell of a performance and if that meant to get a "picture perfect" girl, then that's what they had to do. It's a sad fact, but that's the way it works.
As for the picture, you're right. It was done in poor taste and I do find it offensive. What was their point in taking this picture? If it was for reverence then they really need to reexamine their definition of respect.

nah, china must be paranoid from all those clamor against them before the olympics even began. There's nothing racist about the pic. I think the team was just doing a gesture wherein Chinese people are more known for, that is their chinky eyes. I don't think the team will be stupid enough to publish an ad that they know very well will be a subject of criticism in the near future. Masyado lang defensive ang Chinese Govt because of their guilt from so many human rights violation. I myself did not bother to make a single post about the olympics since its my own personal protest against their numerous human rights violation. Its not the chinese people, its their government.

I read this yesterday and got very angry, it's one thing for the fireworks I believe some of that was done for safety reasons, but to have a girl lip synching because she's cute and the real singer is not is crazy. I think the other little girl is adorable and china needs to get over the we need to have perfect women issue it has, it's worse then the US is and we are pretty bad over here.

I've read about that lipsynching controversy in Yahoo yesterday. It's just not right. Looking at the photos above, that "original" singer looks cute anyway, well at least for me. They shouldn't have robbed her talent for that moment. How sad...

I feel bad for that little girl who was forced to the background just because she wasn't cute enough. They pretty much destroyed the girl's self-esteem by what they did.
As for the Spaniards, I think it was a poor joke. The white race have pretty much made fun of everybody else anyway through the centuries. I don't see them changing anytime soon.

I find it disgusting and degrading that this amazing little girl who certainly is cute, would be replaced. I feel sorry for both girls. The "cute" girl will believe that her looks are not enough, and she has to "pretend" to be talented. The talented girl will believe that her talent is not enough because she isn't "cute" enough. It's so sad.

Completely unacceptable. I would like to see an interview about her singing. It would be interesting if it was she or an adult who commented on her "talent".
She won't be so famous if they do let the other little girl sing, poor thing will look even more foolish than she does now. Of course she is not the one to blame, I'd like to know what her parents were thinking!

It's sad, but not surprising in the least. We can't blame Lin Miaoke, she is just a little girl doing what she is told. As for the other girl not being "attractive enough," I think she is adorable; they both are.
I'm not sure if I would call that photo racist, but it is definitely immature.

It is horrible what they've done to that other girl, the one who did sing the song. She was basically told she was too fat and ugly to represent her country. The truth is that girl is cute and what was done is horrible. I am glad I live in a mostly free country here in America.

Based on the latest 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Medal Count/Medal Tally, China
’s medal machine is showing no sign of loosening its grip on the top spot. Looks like they really prepared for this year’s competition. The US is stuck in second place and not even the heroics of Michael Phelps could give them their traditional top spot in the 2008 Olympic medal tally/medal count.

There is an article in Sydney Morning Herald(august 26, 200 that in Sydney Olympics, the Sydney Symphony also mimed its performance and that part of it was done by the the Melbourne symphony orchestra. Interesting that the western press did not find this newsworthy. I wonder whether the writer who wrote the article would be similarly outraged on reading this ?
