Hi Mom, I'm a doctor but I turn my phone on silent when I attend mass. If it vibrates incessantly, I take the call outside. It might be urgent. If it's a text message, I text back only if it's important.
It's bad enough when the phone beeps or rings but worse when it actually sounds like croaking, loud hip hop music or like during a wedding I attended recently, a voice saying "You have a text message".
hi em, I really do not mind hearing alert tones in other public places like restaurants, theaters or coffee shops. they do not get to me. but this one was different. it was in church and I think we should at least respect the sanctity of the place. it was an irresponsible blunder aggravated by the fact that she went on with the conversation despite realizing that all eyes were on her.
she wasn't a doctor pala (sigh), as I found out this morning from a neighbor who was seated near us. she's a real estate broker.
sana naman di nya tinapos ang ring, baka hiphop ang tugtog lahat sa simbahan nagsayawan na sa lakas lol! but korek si emdy dapat muted at i-vibrate nlng if doc siya. alala ko dati when preggy ako, nag papaanak na doc ko tinatawagan ko pa e lol, madaming nang-iistorbo sa mga doc na patient na makulit like me :P

actually, yun nga ang kinagagakit ko eh. ang ring tone niya eh yung orig nokia tone na masakit sa tenga, tapos ascending pa! kung papaya dance man lang ba yun eh di enjoy pa pati na yung pari! LOL.

Your dad may be right. It might have been an emergency that required her immediate attention. However, I still agree with what Em Dy said. The lady should have taken the necessary steps (such as set the cellphone to vibrate) so as not to disrupt the Mass. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt for now for by not coming back in, she obviously felt embarrassed by the whole thing. She gets just one chance with me though.

mobile phones incessantly ringing inside the church, moviehouse, theaters and meetings is downright annoying and very much inconsiderate.
Hay naku maraming ganyan. Same thing happened during the mass at my uncle's wake a few months ago. Naghohomily ang pari, nagring ang phone, ni hindi man lumabas, dun na sinagot ang call. hindi pa natapos dun, may mga sumunod pang calls sinagot pa rin... hindi talaga nahihhiya.... hmmmp.
haay, karamihan sa mga kabataan ngayon ay ganyan. walang pakundanagn magtxt. hahaha... dapat jan dsiplina.

hahaha... fortunately, the people in the church that i go to are all modest... i haven't had the same experience... although i had lots of encounters with cellphone-people in the cinemas and auditoriums... i do the same thing, rant to my company...
even if she was a doctor, iont think a loudly ringing phone is acceptable. is her phone an old model that it doesn't have a vibra alert? come on!
dak: that was really irresponsible. I don't remember what her phone was. I didn't have a good look at it.
