Nice thoughts. However, I think that the real problem of growing population esp. with street children is not a responsibility of the government and church alone. It's our society and all Filipinos' responsibility.
Why are waiting for a hero courtesy of a president to save us? Then complain if he or she is not capable of doing so.
Why are we buying pirated goods to save money instead of helping our economy grow?
Why do love watching fancy telenovelas instead of finding time to teach streetchildren how to live decently?
Why do we not stop earning good money for a while and start caring for others esp. streetchildren?
This is because we are not united unless there is a big tragedy or a government to overthrow.
Unless we do not talk to the man in the mirror, we will not solve the problem.
Thanks and sorry for the long comment. I just got carried away.

You have some good points there, and I agree. Don't get me wrong, I am not blaming government for this (si GMA na naman ang may kasalanan, sabi nga nila) but I think the stae should spearhead any move to solve this problem, much like a shepherds role to a flock of sheep.
In other countries, the developed ones, they have programs to address all these like information campaigns, health care missions, etc. - all geared towards educating the public.
But what I'm really against is the states stand on birth control. The Church's policy is, I think, counter productive. And the state should no better than this.

I agree with guardian angel as well as monaco's post. Each has a point seen in different perspective. It's like a coin, one object with two different sides and both are correct. hehehe...
PS. We also need "will power" which we don't see much these days.

I also agree with that. Most people just go with the flow without thinking what is best for them and for the country.

One of the things I learned while doing my Sociology class and "field trips", was a lot of these street children are also exploited, because, let's face it, it's big money. The "pity me" faces still work. The sad reality is, sometimes, its their own parents who prostitute them to a life on the street begging because it's easier and brings more money for less effort.
But there are more street children who simply don't have a lot going for them and they swamp Catholic charities in the Philippines. I agree that it's not just the government's problem, as long as Filipinos accept the term "eh ganon talaga eh", there won't be any resocialization of a culture that badly needs one.

That's a wonderful insight on the issue. I know that a lot of the solution rests on each individual's capacity and will power to what is needed. But even for a flock of sheep, there should be a shepherd and it is the shepherd's role to lead them. If the shepherd won't move, the flock goes astray or worse, die.
