Wonderful, simple demonstration of where we are/should be, Cindi. We have a huge number of green circlers now (recent but enthusiastic converts saying and doing what you quote in green). We're trying just about anything to reach the purple circlers that run the planning process. It's going to take patience, persistence, and overwhelming numbers, but any one of those could do the trick.

Fabulous video. I'm glad you erased "a new philosophy". There's nothing new about the philosophy behind "2.0". There's always been a leading edge doing more and better in providing service and connecting to users. Our tools keep getting better and our challenges more interesting. But the philosophy is the same as it ever was.

This is all very impressive, Cindi, thanks for sharing. I feel like at this point, I learn something new AND useful every day.
you said: "connecting with like minds
Then: listservs, usenet
Now: Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Meebo Rooms"
It seems to me (and I am still exploring much of this new stuff so I could be very wrong) that while they are extremely effective, these new ways of connecting with peers are much less (for want of a better word) inclusive. With a listserv, one just joined, and then could participate either actively or passively. With Facebook or Twitter, I feel uncomfortable poking or tweeting someone withone knowing them beforehand. Is this an erroneous belief on my part? Should I just jump in and start poking and tweeting?

Wow...love it! Love the idea of "helping each other." Concise pulling together of the conversations of the David Lee King post, Michael Stephens' post (link), RUSA preconference and so many other discussions. This video captures, for me, this idea of movement, growth, evolution, always staying focused on our users (the goal being our users). VERY cool. :0)

Sure, just join! I usually poke only the people I "know"--with twitter, I respond sometimes to people I know and sometimes to people that I've never met but have come to know there.
It's up to you, but you should know that some people don't add people as online "friends" until they've had some sort of interaction. So, if you add someone on Facebook or respond to someone on Twitter, you might send them a message introducing yourself.

Very much enjoyed your video Cindi! It is both encouraging and inspiring. I'm a "green" and glad to be working with a number of greens. Together, we have many exicting opportunities on the horizon!
