Gravatar The one you would miss the most if you didn't go for it.

Gravatar yay! You've choosen door number... erm Pi!

Anyways go for it. And don't give up. Erm... damn Im just getting home from a frat party... my mind isn't fully in gear. More later kiddo!

Gravatar Thanks for the wonderful advice everyone!!!! Also, thank you to my new reader. I love that my passion for food comes through to people. It has been such a huge part of my life, and I hope I spark some interest in other people due to this.

I have decided to keep things the way they are at the moment. I forgot to include that one job ( 6day a week one) is in a restaurant kitchen, and the part time is in a catering kitchen. At this point in time I think the restaurant is where I want to be. WOw, not an easy choice, but my gut tells me its the right one!

Gravatar Miss Monique,

The type of decision you're up against is one that will repeat itself many times over. You have to make the call between something which is relatively safe vs. something that's more risky or in this case choose between what appears to be two decent options. The intersting piece is you've had it both ways for a while and now may need to decide on one. It'll happen again and again.

I'm not much of a blog reader but stumbled across your blog over the Christmas holidays while looking for something else. To me, the most interesting piece about you that comes through on your blog and compels me to come back and check in is your passion for cooking. You also seem like a great person, you write well, you live in Ottawa - all admirable things but the interest in your cooking career shines through. I think you should take risks and take any position that allows you to develop this skill further. In this case it sounds like your (former?) part time job is the place to be.

Re-read how you expressed your thoughts on the two opportunities. All the pros were for converting the part time job into something better while the cons were around having to leave your 6 day/wk job.

If in addition to being more experienced, the chef there is also a better mentor to you then by all means go for it. The *potential* for a management position at the other place? If you're really interested in a management job, guaranteed one will come around again. You're seriously better off deferring that move until you've done everything else you want in the industry. Good friends with the staff? You'll leave there on great terms with all of them and the way things work, you'll hook up with many of them again in the future.

Speaking from experience here, this choice isn't easy but there is a winner. The hard part is making the change. Best of luck!!!

Gravatar I explain what you have been offered at the closer place to the commited place. Let them know how much you love working there but that the better hours/pay would really work better in the overall picture that is your life. Ask them to match the hours/up your pay, etc.

An employee is very very valuable to a company as I'm sure you know and it costs lots and lots to train someone fresh (this I know), if I were you I would bargain for the best deal possible.

Way to be so popular!!

Gravatar I think that management position may happen and may not happen. Until you get it, everything is possible.
I think choosing work where you can grow and get more experience in long term will benefit you more.

Gravatar ryan just stole my good idea. Find a coin with a big design on it like a toonie or something and use that. Better results (not all coin flips are truly 50/50 because of the weight difference. However the difference is really actually quite trival and statisticially insignificant. So just flip the coin :P).

However, no matter how you decide to do this, you'll make the right choice.

Gravatar you know what i would do mon.
i believe its time to use a little thing called a quarter. it will never let you down.

Gravatar Forget about the pay. Which one aligns most with your goals? They both offer some level of comfort or convenience. If the management position helps you out, you should ask about the likelihood of that happening any time soon. Otherwise, the experience is probably what you want.
