Gravatar I am glad to see so many people took the time to answer your call. And, the numbers in the previous post are quite impressive. I hope things get better up there as quickly as possible. Please keep us updated about the food and shelter situation, as best you can. I've been worrying all day about that empty food bank you posted about this morning.

Gravatar We're working on getting that Food Bank stocked-up, here on a very local basis.

It's the Mid-South United Way that oversees the Food Banks here. So, the donations to United Way Mid-South, are for Food.

I dropped off about $400 in potatoes, rice, bags, canned corn and beans. I've got so much to blog about, and so many people to thank in only about five hours a night-- until tomorrow night and the Weekend. (Kroger donated a huge stack of paper grocery sacks, and discounted everything that I bought today.)

Talking with the Kroger Manager, I think I can set up a major store donation for the Food Bank. They seem interested. I just didn't have time tonight to really get the deal done, as I had to get to the Food Bank and deliver the goods before 5pm...

Gravatar Hi MF,

Just a quick heads-up. Steve Benen of The Carpetbagger Report runs Salon's blog report nowadays and I happen to know it was Steve personally who put your report on there. You should change your thank-you there to give credit where credit's due.

Regards, Cernig

Gravatar glad everyone pitched in, mf! glad we could help!

Gravatar You should probably add thanks to American Street. I found out about this via their article.

Gravatar Maybe Atrios should take on contributors in addition to contributions.

Gravatar Cujo--

I will this is just part 1.

There are a LOT more bloggers to thank.

Gravatar Thanks for your update, MF. How are the folks doing? How are YOU doing?

Many, many thanks-

Gravatar Thanks for the Love. I wont be blogging until next week, my grandmother died last night.

Gravatar Good luck with your effort. I have a goddaughter who lived in the dorm at Jackson University that was demolished. She was not there when the tornado hit but she spent hours trying to account for her dormmates and friends all of whom, miraculously, were ok.

Her parents drove from Kentucky to Jackson to pick her up. She lost everything in her dorm clothes, music, her computer and, of course, her car in the parking lot.

Thank you for your efforts and Godspeed!

Gravatar MF, you rock, working so hard to help the tornado victims. Hope Kroger's sets up the deal. Businesses should invest in their communities.

Raw Story is invaluable for bringing this type of story to the consciousness.

I am awed and humbled by your activism and your progressive politics. Thanks again to Skippy and Jon Swift for B.A.D., and all the wonderful progressive bloggers I've met, like you.

Gravatar Dude:
What's wrong with you?
Atrios did link to you...back on Thursday.
Sometimes it is never enough for you guys.

Gravatar Sam,

Thers posted that to Eschaton, not Atrios. I had to literally had BEG Thers to get it up there. You don't know the full story.

Gravatar Raw Dawg--

My dearest condolences to you. I wish I still had my Grandparents with me. I really miss them.

Gravatar Great work YOU'RE doing down there, MF. You deserve to be sitting there in the audience at NEXT year's SOTU -- you know, the one Barack Obama's going to deliver.

Glad to be able to help.

Gravatar MF, thanks for taking the lead on this.

You're right, I don't know the full story, and Atrios didn't cover this story, but Eschaton the site did, thanks to Thers. That doesn't mean that should be the end of their coverage, but I'm sure a large number of folks read about the cause there, and that's nothing to sneeze at. Just my two cents.

In any case, the important thing is trying to help. I've lost track of all the sites I've seen highlight this, and I hope the donation sum has been signficant and meaningful. I suppose we'll get those numbers eventually, when (I hope) things settle. I certainly appreciate your passion and ground's eye view on all this.

Gravatar Got your back. And I do believe Atrios mentioned the tornadoes and your charity links, though he didn't mention you (sigh)....

Gravatar Once again...

After begging for two days... Comments post after comments post... email after email, I BEGGED for someone with the keys to PLEASE post the plea to the site.

Thers wasn't going to do it until this coming weekend. I BEGGED him. I had to wait awake until 1am for the comments of the YouTube thread directly below Thers' post to hit 500 comments. I HOUNDED and BEGGED him.

THERS relented, and put the post up.

Atrios had nothing to do with it.

I've known Atrios for 12 years. LONG before he even had a blog. I was one of his first commenters ever. I actually like the guy. Right now, he's willfully ignoring a major national tragedy, and it has me irked, and I am shaming him in a pretty mild way. The same tactic that he uses. The same tactic that Bartcop taught both of us.

Simple as that.

I'm very tired right now. I've spent four days on very little sleep, running around, and eating too little for my own good. I'm crabby right now, and need a rest before I get ill.

Have a great night.

My dealings with Kroger went pretty well this afternoon. I gave the Store Manager all the contact information, and their Corporate In-Kind Donations information. They were receptive.

Right now, I'm just trying to put people together to cause positive change.
