Gravatar Hey Angry John,

If the anger keeps a knockin' then you come a rockin' over to www.batofury.co.uk

Later dude.

Gravatar Fuck you and go to hell.

Goose is hall material. It's fucknuts like you who think that this hall of fame is somehow sacred ground.

The hall needs more chunk. I'm going to fucking vote for the shooter when he comes round, too. Count on it. The hall needs fuckers like Beck in there and not some mamsy pamsy fucklenuts like what you're dealing.

I will agree with you that Shawon Dunston's single vote is one too many....that fucker booted out of the windy apple the greatest of great shortstops of all time...Mr. Larry Motherfucking Bowa....and you can go to hell if you disagree. And Bowa will kick your ass if you do.

And fuck whoever this Bof character above me is.

I don't know if you can tell, but I am in a pretty good mood.

Gravatar Somebody didn't eat his Corn Flakes.

Gravatar Gossage absolutely belongs in the hall. The real crime is that it took the writers this long to recognize this. Sure, your memory of Goose is Gibson taking him upper deck in '84, but the fact remains he put up many of his saves while pitching two-plus innings. If Trevor Hoffman were asked to do this he'd have his agent on the phone within four seconds.

Besides, Goose's election leaves open the possiblity of this being his induction speech: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r...75KU9reHAs& NR=1

Gravatar You know, I've looked at some more stats of guys who are in and have come to the conclusion that 1) Gossage is better than Bruce Sutter, who is in, and 2) he's as good as Rollie Fingers, who is also in.

And it is true that Goose's ERA during his prime is up there with the best closers/relievers ever, including Mariano Rivera and Eckersley. And I suppose if both of those guys are in (or will be in Mariano's case), Gossage should be in there, too.

But I just don't see how any of those guys are better or more valuable to his teams than Blyleven or Morris. Morris and Blyleven (and Tommy John and Jim Kaat) routinely finished their games -- no Gossage needed.

Blyleven, in particular, has some impressive stats. He pitched nearly 5000 innings, had something like 250 complete games, and suffered from playing on some pretty shitty teams (Minnesota in the 1970s and Cleveland in the 1980s). He's a good example of why the 300 wins barrier is too arbitrary. If he'd won 13 more games, he'd be a hall of famer. That's retarded.

I won't lose any sleep over Gossage's induction. I have a lot of good memories of him (especially that pitch he served up to Gibby). And I suppose that if Eckersley and Sutter are both in, then Gossage deserves to be there too.

But if Gossage is in, Blyleven should be in. And Jim Rice should be in. And Andre Dawson should be in. And Tim Raines.

But I'm not sure any of those guys are really worthy.

The Hall of Fame should be reserved for players who, when you hear their name, immediately give you the feeling that they're Hall of Famers. Koufax. Carlton. Ryan. Sure, there will always be some borderline cases (like Robin Yount and Ryne Sandberg and Gossage and Sutter), but there's a reason why Gossage took nine years to get in -- he just doesn't feel like a HOFer.

Which is why I think they should cap the number of years of eligibility at ten, tops, and require 85% of the vote total. It should be much harder to get elected to the Hall of Fame.

I'LL SHUT UP NOW.

Gravatar Raines should be in there for doing most of what he did while high. With lupus.
