Dr. Blume -
We are honored to have your insightful observations posted here, at our little internet salon/blogger cafe [were it to be physically actualized, it might resemble the shop in the ABC TV series "Pushing Daisies" - see http://www.thepiemaker.com/]
I would like to compare and contrast your thoughts with those of Dr. Justin Frank, blogging at the Huffington Post - and perhaps I will, after I have given each the attention they deserve. (In other words, I have been skimming and saving, rather than savoring, Dr. Frank's postings - http://tinyurl.com/6ceumu) Certainly, explicating the reverberations of McCain's King Kong reference cannot be done in a few words (although let me say that of the three film versions, the first and third are superior, and would be worth reviewing - and the second speaks of its own time, and ours, as well).
In the meantime, with regard to the contest between Senators McCain and Obama, it has become clear that the American people will be offered a clear choice of war strategies this November - Obama's plan to move troops from Iraq to Afghanistan, or McCain's to maintain the status quo (with an option to increase troops in Afghanistan).
At times like this I still miss Fafblog.

Good one!
But have you heard the joke forensic psychiatrist Dr. Angela Hegarty told after examining Jose Padilla, the US citizen who was held for 3 1/2 years in "extreme isolation" (which I read as "torture")?
...he had developed, actually, a third thing. He had developed really a tremendous identification with the goals and interests of the government. I really considered a diagnosis of Stockholm syndrome. For example, at one point in the proceedings, his attorneys had, you know, done well at cross-examining an FBI agent, and instead of feeling happy about it like all the other defendants I’ve seen over the years, he was actually very angry with them. He was very angry that the civil proceedings were "unfair to the commander-in-chief," quote/unquote. And in fact, one of the things that happened that disturbed me particularly was when he saw his mother. He wanted her to contact President Bush to help him, help him out of his dilemma. He expected that the government might help him, if he was "good," quote/unquote. --EXCLUSIVE: An Inside Look at How U.S. Interrogators Destroyed the Mind of Jose Padilla
Yeah, the punchline's a little clunky, but she really sold it with her delivery.

if i might humbly call attention to one of my own more 'blog noir-ish' posts that was in this vein, but which drew no comments in its time. perhaps it was too cynical. but nonetheless.
who knows if it is good or bad.

Eureka! Of course. That explains why McCain could shamelessly support Bush in 2004 after having been treated so shamefully by him in 2000.

The insight was palpable. Ew, I'd better wipe itt off.
I eagerly await Herr Doktor Blume's next column. And I will definitely stop in for a logopedicure the next time I am in Berlin.
