Hi Steve,
I think that both are important: family issues (meaning marriage, sexual purity, abortion) AND social justice. As Catholics we have to take care of both.

Paula,
I agree and in fact, didn't cover the social justice aspect of it as well as I should have. When it comes to helping the poor, ministering to those in prison, visiting the sick and the homebound, most Catholic parishes do an outstanding job, and do not allow one issue to take total control of their parish. At my parish at least, there is help given to a Christian homeless shelter, a food bank, there is the Saint Vincent de Paul Society to help the poor, and various ministries sponsored by or run by our parish, and more.
I think the whining by the "progressives" about social justice is a ruse on their part to attempt to get people to believe that the Church is looking at only abortion and same sex marriage, and ignoring everything else. Sorry progressives, that just won't fly here. We don't forget the social justice, but, we will not ignore abortion, euthanasia, or same sex marriage because it doesn't fit into your agenda. God's agenda is first, not what you want to pretend is a Christian agenda.
