i've long wanted to make this one! In the few times I've made bread with wholemeal flour, I've found they need something else, whether it's more time or more kneading or something. But I rather like the idea of walnuts too!

I have a bread maker, but I did try a few times in the Days Of Yore to make my own bread but it was horrid. This sounds like the go!!

that does look pretty scrummy, despite your reservations. i think good bread must be pretty hard to make by hand, but gosh i bet it smelt good!

Maple syrup has gotten soooo expensive here that we've stopped using it for anything but pancakes and waffles... (and even then you have to be a worthy person, not just some sleepover guest of my kids'...) I hope it goes back to normal soon, because I miss baking with it!

Mmm... the scent of warm bread fresh from the oven - how tantalising.

I have found that if you make bread frequently, you develop a "hand" for it and it turns out better each time.

I've had that with nuts in bread, too, where as the dough is kneaded, the nuts just fall right out of it.
I just made a batch of bread yesterday, my standard recipe. Plus a little rolled oats. And some whole wheat (graham) flour. Mmmm, fresh bread and butter!
