Gravatar I was just discussing the merits of real Maple syrup with MrsDrWho: found a recipe for pecan and white chocolate brownies with maple syrup sauce (OK it was really walnuts, but I like pecans better) The cake looks very autumnal, and delicious. You do that mixing over hot water with semi freddo too. Thanks for the review, it looks like a winner!!


Gravatar Real maple syrup is expensive here, too, but for all I know it's LESS expensive. We're very close to the maple-producing areas--the bottles usually say either Vermont or Canada. But it's got to be real, for me. I grew up on the fake stuff and I had NO IDEA what I was missing. I won't order pancakes or waffles in a restaurant that doesn't serve real maple syrup. My mom also cooked with imitation vanilla. Sigh. Needless to say, I pay the money for the real stuff. Why bother baking if you're not putting the best ingredients into it? That's how I feel anyway.

Gravatar This is one cake I've been wanting to make for so long...it's just the thought of spending a week's pay on obscenely expensive maple syrup that puts me off. It does look seriously gorgeous though

Gravatar I actually made this cake last night! Will frost today and serve tomorrow. Hope it is still yummy because the recipe says to serve the day it is prepared. I am trying to come up with a way to improvise a double boiler. I will let you know how it turns out!
