Gravatar the quote at the beginning of 'what it feels like for a girl' is actually from the film adaptation of 'the cement garden' by ian mcewan, in case you were interested.

Gravatar Excellent, I had no idea. Thank you for sharing that with me, I will definitely look into it.

Gravatar Yes, yes and yes again to this problem; slipping into 'traditional male' is something I fight hard to resist at times - chatting to the makeup lady in the chemists I'm relaxed and happily talking naturally; I go to buy motor oil, suddenly my voice drops two octaves and my choice of language drops to one step above grunting.
As time goes on its gradually reducing, I only hope one day it will go altogether since I hate myself after the fact for bending to the will of percieved normality for no good reason ...

Gravatar I quoted you in a post I made. Thanks for this.

Gravatar Holley, I can relate to what you've said perfectly. I've certainly been in the situation where I play the masculine card by lowering my voice for whatever reason; I could be wearing a ton of make up, skinny jeans, and tall heels and still act the same way.

Jim. Thank you for sharing your blog entry with me. I'm glad to hear other people's thoughts on the subject, as it is something so important to me.
