Gravatar Well-put. I'm not sure what the answer is either. I wonder if there really IS any alternative other than to let it "roll off your shoulders"? The story with your lawyer friend is the kind of thing that makes me really mad/frustrated about misogyny especially when her work ethic is called into question when obviously she is doing a great job. It's easier for an outsider to say, "Fight the Power." "If you don't speak up, there will be no change!" But to sacrifice everything you know to fight the bigger cause, is it worth it? Does it make a difference?

Gravatar let's be honest. i didn't speak up and i'm certainly not going to do it now. how much does that blow? i'm SO quick to just let my morals and grounded beliefs float out the window b/c the fact is-the job market is shit here. and even more so for a foreign-born sociologist? same for the friend i mentioned. she's trying to get a transfer but the chances are pretty small. one thing is being in an established work environment with the legal and social support necessary to absolutely make a required claim in a situation that calls for such. but what about if you're not in that environment? what aBOUT all those workers in the U.S. who just can't AFFORD to speak up...or their kids won't eat?
with the legal aid work i'm doin here i've seen how much those people get shit on in the U.S. and there just aren't enough legal aid organizations to help them all. different, but the same idea.
mmm uplifting thought to start the weekend.
