From the people I've come into contact with it appears that there's as much prejudice at the fringe as in the mainstream, its just the targets are different :-/
Its a pity that LGBTQ people arn't always open to friendlies

Wow, that stinks that you had that experience. I'd think in a city as large as NYC, they'd be more open.
