Gravatar Two thoughts:

First, the bash of the pharmaceutical industry. From a purely scientific perspective (I swear I'm not biased by the fact that I work in big pharma), it's simply easier to control ovulation than sperm-production. And there ARE research programs geared toward male-based contraception, though they are primarily being pursued by small venture-capital funded biotech firms rather than large pharma.

Second, masturbation! I wholeheartedly agree that female masturbation is becoming much less taboo. But I'm struck - reiterating what you've already said - that SO MUCH of it is portrayed as a "hot and sexy" object of male pleasure, rather than an expression of female sexuality. So frequently it's "sex appeal" rather than some sort of statement. And female sexuality still hasn't reached the level of acceptableness as male; for instance, when was the last time you saw a movie featuring a bunch of women talking about a circle jerk or getting so horny they have sex with an apple pie? Male sexuality tends to be construed as an object of humor, while female sexuality as teh object of lust. When those two perspectives can begin to balance out (and a genderqueer sexuality can be included), I'll think we'll be on the right path.

Gravatar my favorite is joan allen's bathtub scene in pleasantville!
