yea you're pretty much correct. even though i absolutely love 40 yo virgin and superbad they're still very...regular in terms of who their audience is and what they're saying. i think a lot of it comes from nerd insecurities, i know a lot about that since i'm a HUGE nerd. and one thing nerds always tell themselves is that once they get outta highschool they'll be considered cool and be successful while all the 'hot' guys get beer bellies and never leave their hometown and become sellouts. this is all somewhat true, but it's often partnered with this patriarchal idea that nerds will get the hot women as part of their 'success' (see: revenge of the nerds). this is, obviously, BS and people's 'hotness' really does not matter and what is hot and not brings up a whole other slew of bullshit problematic crap. so yes...i agree.
