Gravatar I don't know you and you don't know me, so I will keep this brief. First, I stumbled across your blog randomly. Second, I'd like to assert my unashamed support of capitalism. I am the greatest believer in capitalism you could find. That being said, I would simply ask you to examine your poitical philosophy a bit more rigorously to find some of the contradictions. No one has a completely unified theory on society or a monolithic political ideology. I understand how you support small government and the rights of individuals. But can't you see that the denial of civil unions to all Americans is a denial of rights? You mock a gay spokesperson in your blog with assertions of his femininity, and elsewhere you mock Jim McGreevey for being gay. His homosexuality was clearly frightening for many people: Gays were no longer faggy drug addicts in the inner cities, but the leaders of states. That meant they could be anyone--Dick Cheney's daughter, Ronald Reagan's son, your daughter, or your son. I realize this is an important issue to you based on the title of your weblog, so of course you are entitled to your own opinion. But before you publicize your clear lack of tolerance through mockery, maybe you should think about the ways you might have been discriminated or mocked in your past. That may sound really touchy-feely to you...but why don't you actually try it?

Gravatar But before you publicize your clear lack of tolerance through mockery

We draw the line between "tolerance" and "acceptance".

Generally speaking (for we surely haven't imagined every possible perverse act) people have the right to do what they please with other consenting adults.

To us, that is "tolerance" and is all anyone should expect.

We retain the right to disapprove and mock where we find it appropriate.

And, of course, we reject the redefinition of the word "marriage".

"Civil unions" are a matter of state law, and if an employer chooses to recognize them, that is its right.

As for being mocked in the past/present/future: we learned back in the sandbox not to give a rat's ass. We suppose that's why we're metal heads!

For the record we are libertarian(small "L")-conservatives.

The adjective "libertarian" decorates the noun "conservative" much as "prog" decorates "power" in "prog-power" (a metal sub-genre).

While we espouse many of the attributes of prog metal, we reject several of its tenets and are power metallers first.

We do appreciate the thought-provoking comments and hope others we have disagreements with will be similarly motivated to post here.

Gravatar You have the right to bugger whomever you choose.

And I have the right to regard it as a sin.

Tolerance is a two-way street.

Gravatar I hate how prog metallers throw in a time change every four measures.

Uh -- could I ROCK for a few bars PLEASE!!!
