I used to have a mild crush on Jerry Reed. He also wrote Elvis' 'Guitar Man', I think.

OK, I have to tell my "Jerry Reed story."
It was the late 1980s and I was managing a record store near Rush street and the Gold Coast in Chicago. I come out of my office and see some guy looking intently in the Country racks. He's looking at the Jerry Reed section and we start talking about Jerry Reed songs, mostly Guitar Man and Jerry's version vs Elvis's. At some point I say something like "So, you're big Jerry Reed fan?" and he replies "My wife loves him."
He leaves and as I see him through the window walking by, I get my first real look at him and realize that he was Jerry Reed.
I always loved the "My wife loves him" line.

Y'know, at first I was like "meh" and then a DJ on WFMU played the best friggin' tribute - this guy was not only prolific, but diverse, and although behind-the-scenes-legendary, legendary.
Now I wish he wasn't dead!
He also said that Dick Dale was suffering from rectal cancer and that well wishers could write to dick@dickdale.com
Really good DJ- & radio disgusts me, despite my son and several of my favorite bloggers being DJs (hell, they're all exempt from my statement....) so that's saying something.....
